The Centre for Political Studies admits students to the M.A, M.Phil/Ph.D and Direct Ph.D programmes. The teaching and research of the Centre covers three rubrics of study within Political Science: a) Political theory and the study of Ideas; b) Indian politics; and c) Comparative politics and International Relations. The study of each of these areas is informed by the understanding that political institutions and processes are embedded in, and they reflect, political values and ideas. A critical exploration of the latter is therefore necessary for understanding the complexity and dynamics of politics. At the same time, ideas cannot be analyzed in isolation; they have to understood in relation to the wider historical and political context of which they are a part. It is this urge to continuously transgress the boundaries of what have emerged as distinct sub-fields of political science, and the attempt to produce empirically sensitive theorization that defines the work of the Centre.
