The Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) is pleased to announce that Professor Jayati Ghosh will deliver the S. D. Punekar Memorial Lecture at the 66th Annual ISLE Annual Conference, to be held at Symbiosis International (Deemed) University, Pune, during 19–21 January 2026.
The lecture honours the memory of the late Professor S. D. Punekar, a founding member of ISLE and a former President of its Annual Conference, whose pioneering contributions laid a strong foundation for labour studies in India.
Professor Jayati Ghosh, who has also served as a President of the ISLE Annual Conference, continues this tradition of leadership and scholarship. Her lecture will address key questions shaping labour, employment, and development in contemporary India.

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Kaushik Basu will be joining as a speaker at the ISLE 66th Annual Conference 2026.
Dr. Basu is a former Chief Economist of The World Bank, a former Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India, and a former President of the ISLE Conference. He is currently Professor of Economics and the Carl Marks Professor of International Studies at Cornell University.
The 66th edition of the ISLE Annual Conference will be hosted by Symbiosis School of Economics at Symbiosis International University - SIU in Pune, bringing together academics, policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to engage in critical discussions on labour and development.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. S.Mahendra Dev, Chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC–PM), will be joining to delivering the inaugural address at the 66th ISLE Annual Conference 2026.
Dr. Mahendradev Dev has had an illustrious career, previously serving as Chair of the Commission for Agriculture Costs and Prices (CACP), Director of the Centre for Economic and Social Studies, and Senior Fellow at the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. He was also the Conference President for the 59th ISLE Conference.
With a PhD from the Delhi School of Economics and postdoctoral research at Yale University’s Economic Growth Center, he has authored more than 100 research publications and several books, including Inclusive Growth in India (Oxford University Press).
He has also been a consultant and adviser to leading international organizations such as the UNDP, World Bank, IFPRI, ILO, FAO, and ESCAP, and has contributed to several key national committees, including the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Employment and the Rangarajan Commission on Financial Inclusion.
The 66th ISLE Annual Conference will be organized by the Symbiosis School of Economics at Symbiosis International University - SIU Pune, bringing together voices from across the globe.
