With only two thirds of babies in India receiving vaccinations when needed, our Endangered Gender project has never been so vital. Last month we ensure that 106 children in Hisar received their vaccinations and provided continued support to their mothers.

Despite being classified by the country as ‘literate’, 31% of the children in classes III to V in our partner schools are unable to read or write in their home tongue—severely reducing their quality of education.
120 new children were enrolled in our literacy classes last month. However there is an estimated 1,200 children across these schools that are thought to be illiterate or severely struggling in class. We are currently working with teachers and local leaders to address the challenge of reaching all of these children. Our new approach works closely with teachers and members of our Bal Sabha child rights group members.
Together they ensure that teachers are motivated to support the children in their classes, closely monitor their work and to ensure that no child graduates our reading project without acquiring the skills that they deserve.

We apologise for the Facebook silence! We're back now and looking forward to updating you all on our work, made possible by your generous support.
Last month we ran a workshop with 20 teachers in Delhi on understanding different forms of disabilities and the role of teachers in ensuring equal opportunities for these children in the classroom. Throughout the session, there was a shift in mind-set, with the teachers beginning to strongly value the importance of inclusive education, whilst being aware of the challenges it posed.
Our child rights project 'My School, My Voice' strongly values the inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream education and we have seen a gradual increase in disabled children enrolled in school, which is expected to continue to rise.
“I really liked spending time with the volunteers. By playing the flag making game I got to know what Japan’s flag looks like. I also liked the sack race a lot. During the sack race one of the team’s balloons burst they let out a huge cry. That was a lot of fun”. – Nitika, student of class V
