✨Words & Muses ’26, the annual creative writing competition organised by Sunny Mugs, the poetry society of JMC, invited participants to step into the liminal space where the ordinary meets the uncanny with this year’s theme “Magical Realism: Reimagining the Real”

After an incredible outpouring of imagination, here are our winners:

Situated at the juncture of the real and the fantastical, the known and the unknowable, the myth and the modern, magic realism as a literary mode of expression resists rigid binaries and the notion of the absolute truth.

As questions of identity, autonomy and dignity continue to challenge our nation with the regressive Transgender Persons Amendment Act, we’re holding space for voices that refuse to be quiet… voices that resist through art, language, solidarity and collective presence.
