๐ In Japan, ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ผ (้ญๆนฏ) are traditional public bathhouses that have been a cornerstone of Japanese culture for centuries.
๐ Unlike onsen, which use natural hot spring water, sento typically use heated tap water and were originally created for people who lacked bathing facilities at home.
๐ Visitors enter through gender-separated sections, store their belongings, and wash thoroughly before soaking in communal baths.
๐ Sento often feature a variety of baths, including hot water baths, cold water baths, jet baths, and even herbal or electric baths. Many traditional sento also showcase stunning murals, often depicting Mount Fuji.
๐ These bathhouses are more than just places to bathe; they serve as social hubs where locals gather to relax and connect, reflecting the community spirit of Japan.
๐ While tattoos were historically prohibited in many sento, due to associations with the yakuza, some modern bathhouses are becoming more accepting.
