They are invisible, they are everywhere, they outnumber the human population by leaps and bounds!
Yes- you guessed it right, the tiny superheros of our planet- The Microorganisms!

Today, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, we celebrated the might of the invisible: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐲. The celebrations commenced with an exicting session, as Prof. Preeti Srivastava of the Department of Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, IIT Delhi unraveled the unseen world of microorganisms.

This was the 28th lecture of our Sci-Tech Spins Lecture series titled- "𝑴𝒊𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒎𝒔: 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒚 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑶𝒖𝒓 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒕." It was the 2nd lecture to be live-streamed and the 1st to feature hands-on activities planned for the students. The trend of hands-on is likely to continue, and we plan to make the series more and more engaging.

The energy of the day carried forward as students, dressed in school uniforms, wearing blue gloves, performed various activities the most interesting one being "𝐕𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐞". Students also took the stage and shared their experiences of the activities they performed.

The winners of the two very interesting hackathons organized by the iGEM Club, IIT Delhi, were also announced. The winners’ list is available on our official website: https://lnkd.in/gEnSvhKr

Many congratulations to all the winners!

The magical last two days flew by in the blink of an eye!

Manasvi: STEM Mentorship Program for High School Girls- an initiative that is not just a flagship program, but something very close to our hearts- welcomed the 4th cohort back to campus on the 8th and 9th of September 2025, for Phase II.

In Phase II, the girls (we call them Manasvis) interacted not just with the faculty and students, but also explored the IIT Delhi campus. From visiting the girls' hostel to taking a trip to the Mittal Sports Complex, the Manasvis had a fun-filled ride on the e-cart touring the entire IITD campus- spotting peacocks and enjoying the natural beauty along the way. The sessions in this phase were not just limited to Maths and Science but also included flying of drones.

Thanks to Prof. Mani Mehra, FNASc (HoD, Department of Mathematics), for her special appearance and inspiring address to set the tune for the upcoming sessions.

Thanks to Ms. Ruby Sinha for accepting our invitation to be a speaker, sharing her journey with the Manasvis, inspiring them to pursue entrepreneurship, and answering all their questions.

A heartfelt thanks to all the faculty members for taking valuable time out of their busy schedules, especially with the semester in full swing- Prof. Sivananthan Sampath- for the exicting Mathematics session, Prof. Soumik Siddhanta for the interesting Chemistry session on light and Prof. Amartya Sengupta for the activity in the Physics lab on both the days.

A shoutout to the entire BotLab Dynamics team spearheaded by Dr. Sarita Ahlawat for teaching the technology that goes onto making drones and showcasing the flying drone. Thanks to Pranav Virmani and team for executing the drone session so seamlessly- engaging the girls in understanding how drones work and even demonstrating a live drone flight.

Lastly, I wish to extend my gratitute to our IIT Delhi students for taking exicting sessions during the phase- II. The student led sessions are always the most exiciting due to a sense of connect.

The Independence Day celebrations at IIT Delhi witnessed something truly magical. A splendid performance by four of our incredible international students (Etau Neeru, Pious Mahu, Emeafu Francis Ebere and Obiekwe Tochukwu Boniface) left the entire audience mesmerized and asked for an encore!

Watching them own the stage with iconic Hindi songs filled the hall with so much passion and joy. The audience started dancing and singing along.

The vibrant colours of India slowly weave themselves into the hearts of students from every corner of the world.

Their performance melted the audience's hearts, especially knowing they performed without any Hindi background.

People gathered around them after the performance to take selfies, applauding them for their mesmerizing performance.

Art is truly a bridge that connects people.

Special thanks to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs for organizing the program, and to all other offices involved in its coordination.
