Most CAT aspirants think they're solving RC passages.
They're actually solving ideas.
The Prisoner's Dilemma isn't just a game theory concept. It appears in economics, politics, business, international relations... and yes, CAT RC passages too.
The better you understand the idea, the easier the passage feels.
This is the first episode of Birbal Explains β€” where we break down complex concepts that frequently appear in RCs in the simplest way possible.

Main Idea β‰  Inference.
And confusing these two is one of the biggest reasons students lose marks in VARC.
πŸ“Œ Main Idea asks: "What's the passage really about?"
🧠 Inference asks: "What can be logically concluded from what the author says?"
They may look similar, but they test completely different reading skills.
This is Part 1 of our RC Question Types series.
πŸ’¬ Which RC question type troubles you the most? ⬇️ Comment below, and Birbal will explain it next.

🚨 One of the biggest mistakes CAT aspirants make?
"CAT ki preparation kar raha hoon... SNAP aur NMAT toh automatically ho jayega."
Not really.
CAT, SNAP, and NMAT may look similar, but they reward very different skills.
🎯 CAT β†’ Accuracy & Deep Thinking
⚑ SNAP β†’ Speed + Accuracy
⏱️ NMAT β†’ Speed + Smart Time Management
Many students underestimate OMETs and pay the price on exam day.
Are you preparing differently for SNAP/NMAT or treating them like CAT?

If your VARC score has been stuck for months, stop solving more RCs.
Most CAT aspirants read a passage, answer the questions, check the answers, and move on.
That's not practice. That's collection.
The real improvement happens after the test.
Ask yourself:
Why did I eliminate the correct option?
Why did I choose the trap option?
What was the author's actual argument?
One RC analysed properly is worth more than five RCs solved mindlessly.
So next time you finish an RC, don't ask:
How many did I get right?
Ask:
Why did I get them wrong?

Most CAT aspirants don't have a reading problem.

They have a reading selection problem.

If you're reading random articles and hoping your VARC improves, you're making it harder than it needs to be.

πŸ“š Aeon Essays πŸ”¬ Scientific American πŸ“ˆ The Economist

Read smarter. Not just more.

Which source do you read regularly?
