Before joining any institute for a PhD program, it's crucial to remember several points many students overlook.
Conduct a basic background check of the supervisor and the research group.
1. Seek advice from previous PhD graduates and current students to understand the lab facilities, working culture, and research approach.
2. Avoid solely considering the institution's reputation; examine the professor's Google Scholar profile, research articles, and their published papers' impact to gauge the research quality.
3. Investigate the average duration of the PhD program; if it exceeds five years, please ask about the financial support available for students.
