The Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, Delhi Technological University (DTU), in collaboration with the Green Institute for Research and Development (GIRD), and with the support of the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, organized a National Seminar on World Ozone Day 2026 on 16 September 2026 on the theme “Beyond the Shield: Bridging Ozone Recovery & Climate Action,” the seminar brought together eminent academicians, scientists, environmental experts, researchers, faculty members, and students to discuss ozone-layer protection, climate action, environmental sustainability, and scientific collaboration.
The inaugural session featured addresses by Dr. Geeta Singh, Head, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, DTU; Mr. Shamsuddeen A.K., Secretary, GIRD; Dr. K.P. Hareendran Achari, President, GIRD; Prof. Govind Pandey, Director General, Buddha Group of Institutions, Gorakhpur; Prof. Mukesh Sharma, Professor-Emeritus, IIT Kanpur; Dr. Praveen Kumar, Scientist-G, Ministry of Earth Sciences. The event was introduced by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Mishra, while Mr. Prateek Saini delivered the vote of thanks.
The technical sessions were moderated by Prof. Niraj Sharma, Professor-Emeritus, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, DTU, and Mr. Anunay Gour, Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, DTU. The expert speakers included Dr. Ramakrishna Ramishetty, Senior Scientist, Switzerland; Dr. Shankar G. Aggarwal, Chief Scientist, NPL, Delhi; Prof. Sri Harsha Kota, IIT Delhi; Dr. Anil Kumar, Ex-Director, Department of Environment, Government of Delhi; Dr. Chinmay Kumar Jena, Scientist D, IMD; and Dr. Vimal Gahlot, Government of Rajasthan.
A painting competition was also organized as part of the program, providing students with an opportunity to creatively express their ideas on ozone protection and climate action. The seminar concluded with a panel discussion and prize distribution ceremony, reaffirming the importance of collective efforts to protect the ozone layer and build a cleaner, healthier, and climate-resilient future.
