Custodial violence and custodial death is an affront to human rights and our constitutional values .Nearly two decades later, a local court in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah sentenced two police personnel, a retired sub-inspector and a serving constable,to life imprisonment for beating a man to death in police custody Three other officers who were also accused in the case died in the course of the trial.

Widening use of disproportionate force by Pakistani forces has increased human rights concerns in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past decade, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and several other international organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over enforced disappearances, excessive use of force, restrictions on freedom of expression, and lack of accountability in the occupied territory.

The Supreme Court yesterday directed that the governments must ensure that there is proper demarcation so that walkers have footpaths which are free from encroachments. In its June 19th order, the Court held that the right to walk on demarcated footpaths is a fundamental right and issued a slew of directions.

France's National Assembly has voted to create a right to assisted dying under strict conditions.This right would allow assisted dying for French adults with a serious and incurable life-threatening illness in an advanced or terminal stage. The illness would need to leave them in constant physical or psychological suffering that is unbearable or resistant to treatment.

"Human rights and neglected tropical diseases” was adopted by the Human Rights Council (HRC) at its sixty-second session in Geneva.The first ever HRC resolution dedicated to all neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) was adopted by consensus, after being put forward by six African countries where the burden of NTDs is significant; the group was led by Malawi, and included Burkina Faso, Gambia, Kenya, Morocco and the United Republic of Tanzania.

The Delhi government yesterday reconstituted the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), appointing a Chairperson and four members to restore the functioning of the statutory body.The DCPCR is responsible for examining complaints of child rights violations, monitoring the implementation of child protection laws and safeguards, and advising the government on issues impacting the human rights of children.
