Is it a natural right or a legal right? Does it exist posthumously? The surreal legal concept of personality rights couldn't have been better depicted than through the life and likeness of the Iconic surrealist, Salvador Dali.

Why Art Law?

Coming to my interest in art law, I believe the story will be quite different from others. I am very much into quizzing and stuff since I was a child. I attended one such quiz which was based on art and monuments of the world. While I was going through the questions, I realised how less do I know about the all these famous artists such as Monet, Rembrandt or Degas apart from the usual names like Picasso or Da Vinci. There began my search for all the paintings, learning about their style and their history basically. I would google stuff like “Top 100 paintings of all time” and read upon them. Further, I read about Banksy and his type of art. So I would say, there began my fascination for Art and stuff like these.

When I started reading law, I always had a question regarding the scenario of Art Law in India.

I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Art Law India in LinkedIn and get an internship there.

I am looking forward to research more in this niche area of law and be associated with in my coming years.

Why Art Law?
Art Law to me, is an area of law, which accommodates both - my love for art and Culture, and my interest in the law. The sheer diversity in the world of Art Law, covering both traditional/ancient art, and modern forms of art, provides
tremendous scope for exploration. With growing years, Art Law has come to encompass a variety of areas of law, such as IPR, Insurance law, Criminal law and more, which makes it an extremely fascinating, and full of potential field, to work in.

While the world commemorates the Dutch Master's birthday, the artist’s work was stolen in an overnight raid. The painting 'The Parsonage Garden at Nuenen in Spring' was loaned to Singer Laren Museum by the Groninger Museum.

Will ‘force majeure’ come to rescue Singer Laren Museum, which was shut due to COVID-19 pandemic?

Famous French Artist Henri Matisse produced some of the most daring and accomplished works of his career during his last years of life when he was bedridden. He worked on his projects using a studio bed with the help of a crayon attached to a long pole. He passed away due to heart attack.

Under Indian law, even after the death of an artist, their copyright in the artistic work subsists for 60 years.
