Meet Manyu from India. 👋 Manyu is a second-year Computing Science student who’s making a meaningful impact both on and off campus at University of Alberta.
Manyu’s journey has been shaped by community, resilience, and leadership. He has served as Campaign Manager for the Students' Union Get Out The Vote Campaign, co-VP Communications for the International Students Association, and an advocate for international students on the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Task Force.
Reflecting on his experience, he shares:
"One key highlight of my university experience was running for Vice-President Academic for the University of Alberta Students' Union in my first year. Losing that election shook up my world in the best way. It made me think about the level of contribution I could make to help the community around me. After a bit of recentering and a lot of late-night study sessions to manage a full course load, building community, advocacy, self-educating, and supporting my friends became my priority from that point onward. I feel honoured to advance the work in causes such as voter literacy, sexual and gender-based violence awareness, mental wellness, and advocacy for international and Indigenous students' needs.
I encourage each student to participate in whatever capacity they can. In a community where everyone contributes, everyone gets supported by adjacency." 💙
