China has unveiled the world's first 17-tower system to recover rubidium and cesium from lithium-processing waste — metals once too costly to extract and typically discarded as slag.

Key highlights:
- Launched by the Institute of Process Engineering (Chinese Academy of Sciences) with Ganfeng Lithium in Jiangxi
- 500-tonne-per-year production capacity
- 17 extraction towers replace a process that previously needed 70+ conventional tanks
