Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti Today, January 23 marks Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary. Owing to the legendary freedom fighter’s extraordinary grit and insurmountable contribution to the Indian freedom struggle, Netaji’s birthday is also observed as Parakram Diwas in the country. Born to mother Prabhabati Bose and father Janakinath Bose, Netaji considered Swami Vivekanand his spiritual guru. He formed the Azad Hind Fauj, a military regiment, to counter Britishers. Bose also formed a woman battalion named the Rani Jhansi regiment. Bose was the one who first referred to Mahatma Gandhi the position as the father of the nation.

Makar Sankranti 2022: One of the major festivals celebrated with much pomp in India, Makar Sankranti holds great significance for Hindus. The festival is considered auspicious for tenacity, worship, charity and sacrifice in the scriptures. Makar Sankranti, or simply Sankranti, is dedicated to Lord Surya (Sun God) and marks the sun's transit into Makara (Capricorn) raashi (zodiac sign). This festival is considered the most auspicious occasion and is one of the few Hindu festivals aligned with the solar cycle. It marks the beginning of the harvest season when people worship new crops and share them with delight.

Lohri (Gurmukhi: ਲੋਹੜੀ, Shahmukhi: لوہڑی) is a popular winter folk festival celebrated primarily in the Indian Subcontinent. The significance and legends about the Lohri festival are many and these link the festival to the Punjab region. It is believed by many that the festival marks the passing of the winter solstice. Lohri marks the end of winter and is a traditional welcome of longer days and the sun's journey to the northern hemisphere by Hindus and Sikhs in the northern region of the Indian subcontinent. It is observed the night before Makar Sankranti, also known as Maghi, and according to the solar part of the lunisolar Vikrami calendar, and typically falls about the same date every year (13 January). Like other harvest festivals in India such as Pongal and Bhogi, Lohri is also dedicated to Indra.
