Greeting everyone!🌸
DSR Book Club of CVS is thrilled to be back with our latest blog by @⁨Divyakriti Mishra⁩ titled "Is our worth tied to our bank accounts?"

"A 19-year-old once said to me, ‘If I am sad I’d prefer being sad while sitting in a Porsche 911.
..Yet, many of us are left confused with the question: What truly brings us fulfillment if money is removed from the equation?"

The blog discusses how society often prioritizes financial success over personal beliefs, leading to a lack of fulfillment and how modern education systems contribute to this by emphasizing money over genuine learning. It suggests how this obsession with wealth often leads to tragic consequences, including moral degradation.

Warm greetings!🌸

Dr. S Radhakrishnan Book Club of CVS proudly presents to you a new addition to its blog "Do you even exist in reality?" -by Vidhi⁩ Chopra

"In a generation where social media is the new reality, everything done and each step taken leads to a chain of serious thoughts or the fear of approval by strangers from around the globe. This has become so extreme that it is more about how Perfect what we do and how we do anything is, irrespective of how relevant or beneficial it might be."

This blog will give you a deeper insight about the times we live in with a new perspective towards seemingly "normal" aspects of life.

Do give it a read and let us know your views!

JANE EYRE BY CHARLOTTE BRONTE

Jane Eyre is the story of a penniless orphan child who grows up to be a fiercely independent woman, overcoming innumerable hardships that come her way and is finally able to find love against all odds. It also tells us about women in 19th century Victorian England when they were not allowed to use their talents and had no freedom to express their opinions but were meant to be confined to their homes and live in the shadows of their male counterparts.
But throughout the novel, Jane demands to be treated and respected as an equal and therefore she fights for women’s independence and rights. Charlotte Bronte created a 19th-century heroine for the first time who acknowledged her desires and is not shy to speak about them. This novel is much more than a love story. It is a bildungsroman or coming of age novel that traces the growth of the protagonist from childhood to adulthood. Jane is an orphan, simple-looking girl who has no money, and no social status, but she is bold, passionate, courageous, and rebellious.

THE NAMESAKE
BY-JHUMPA LAHIRI

The story bases itself on the life of a Bengali immigrant couple who settles in suburban America in the 1960s.
Bonded together by the ties of a typical Indian arranged marriage Ashima marries Ashok Ganguly and moves to America with him.

She gradually overcomes the difficulties that she faces while settling in a new place but at the same time never forgets the values of her Indian roots.
Ashok, a voracious reader and an intellectual named his son "Gogol", after his favorite Russian writer Nikolai Gogol, to whom he is indebted.
The story revolves around Gogol's life, from his childhood to adulthood describing his path of life - relationships, work, marriage, divorce, realizations, etc. Growing up, other children made fun of him by calling him "giggle" or "gargle" which led him to face an identity crisis. He changes his name to Nikhil on turning eighteen as he detested his name and goes on to become an architect.
However, a revelation about his name and his father's untimely death, made him realize that the search for identity depends on much more than just a name.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri’s first novel, The Namesake, with her simple yet serene style of writing, Lahiri successfully throws light over the importance of family along with beautifully describing a women's eccentric molding capacity of adjusting to her surroundings despite all the hardships. The story further accentuates a beautiful relationship between a father and son, highlighting the true worth of one's dynamic purpose that often hides behind the facade of identity.
