Biggest reason why successful people recommend reading?

Reading opens one up to new possibilities and realities beyond themselves and brings people together through sharing and empathy. Reading is like a bridge!

Today is World Book and Copyright Day, a celebration of literature and reading. Best part? You can participate in it too!

Read to Think invites you to post videos of your own and your kids’ experiences of everything to do with reading.

We’ll start off with a video of our young reader Aditya talking about a book he likes!

Imagine this: your child’s friend has a family that looks different from yours and your child doesn’t understand why, so they ask hurtful questions unknowingly. Or someone tells your child that there is something they cannot be because of who they are and your child feels lost because you told them they can be anything they want. So, how do you prepare your kids for this and teach them to be accepting of it without a long, confusing preaching session?

Well, you read with them Mary Hoffman’s two most popular reads where she navigates the world of a young girl with big dreams and the complex web of families that come in all shapes and sizes. Coincidently, or maybe not, it was Mary Hoffman’s birthday yesterday!

When your child reads, do they use their imagination or visualization to create images in their mind?

While imagination can be random, visualization is always guided by clues given by the author.

With practice this important reading strategy teaches children to make connections, read for details and helps them improve their comprehension and retention.

At Read To Think we uses activities like sketching to enhance students’ understanding of this technique while practicing it.

Check out how our students used Visualization strategy to draw their favourite scene from the book "One and Only Ivan" by Katherine Applegate

The characters in her stories were born from her wish to write the books that she longed to read as a child and are popular for being funny and relatable.
