Social Media and our lives
Human beings have made significant advancements in technology, enabling us to connect with the whole world faster than ever before. The internet is the backbone of this advancement, and it holds great possibilities for the future. It has played a significant role in connecting societies worldwide, enabling individuals to connect with each other in mere seconds, even if they are thousands of miles apart. This connectivity has been made possible through social media, which has become crucial in every phase of day-to-day life.
Social media impacts our lives in both positive and negative ways. Every leader in the world, whether political, business, or otherwise, is on social media. Many companies, such as Meta, Apple, and Microsoft, are investing billions of dollars directly or indirectly in social media. The common person uses social media in their daily life, to connect with loved ones and audiences. It provides employment to millions of people and serves as an advertising platform for many businesses. It is just one click away from our reach, allowing us to showcase our talents and skills to the world, earning income and appreciation.
However, we are paying a high negative cost for it as well. Social media platforms are impacting our lives in a negative way. Many of us lose control while using social media and replace real-life experiences with it, leading to many mental health issues. Depression among youths has become a major problem, largely caused by social media. The fake lives portrayed on social media create unrealistic expectations, compelling individuals to chase these achievements. If they are unsuccessful, it leads them towards depression and other harmful consequences.
Moreover, social media can create a good or bad image of a person, making it easy for politicians and business people to degrade their opposition and competition. Millions of dollars and IT teams are established for this purpose. Lies can be spread as truth and vice versa, destroying harmony among different ideologies.
Therefore, it is crucial to create a strategy to maintain a healthy relationship with technology to promote positive changes. We should use social media in moderation and avoid replacing real-life experiences with it. We need to be aware of the negative impact of social media on mental health and strive to maintain a healthy balance between our virtual and real lives. Only then can we enjoy the benefits of social media without paying a significant cost for it.
