Body composition refers to the percentages of fat, bone, water and muscle your body contains, split up in different categories. Categories majorly used are fat and fat-free mass (muscle, bone and water).
Recomposition means “to form something again or in a different way,” hence the term “body recomposition.”
To elucidate, body recomposition refers to the process of changing your ratio of fat mass to lean mass -- that is, losing body fat and gaining muscle mass. The intention in body recomposition is to cut fat and gain muscle simultaneously, unlike the traditional approach of "bulking and cutting" in which you intentionally gain a lot of weight first (muscle and fat) and then go through an intense calorie deficit diet to lose the fat and reveal the muscle underneath. Unlike a standard diet, body recomposition is a lifestyle in which training and nutrition techniques lead to healthy changes in your body’s ratio of fat to muscle.
Many people think that true body recomposition is impossible because of this misconception: To reduce your body fat, you have to eat fewer calories than you burn. But to build muscle mass, you have to take more calories than you burn. However, your body much more smarter than you may give it credit for, and by keeping a close eye on your diet (specifically when you eat what) and your training method, you can surely lose fat and gain muscle at the same time.
