The silence of the winter has finally given way to the sound of the Chandra and Bhaga meeting. There is something deeply grounding about being back at the Tandi confluence this time of year.
We’ve officially set up the riverside home for the summer. Whether it’s watching the peaks change color at sunset or sharing stories over tea, the energy here is back in full swing. If you’re passing through Lahaul or looking for a quiet corner to breathe in the mountain air, come say hello. The gates are open! 🏔️✨

The High-Altitude Bloom Ladakh’s Apricot Season
Prior to the intense influx of travelers along the major Himalayan routes, Ladakh experiences a profound and peaceful seasonal shift. Reaching its zenith in the first half of April, the arid topographies of the region's valleys are dramatically contrasted by the emergence of delicate apricot blossoms. Known as the Chuli Mendok festival, this ephemeral phenomenon offers a rare window where the harsh desert environment is blanketed in vibrant, pastel canopies.

Kyang Chu Thang, more widely recognized today as the More Plains, is one of the most distinctive and geographically significant stretches along the Manali-Leh Highway. While the modern name emphasizes its vastness, the original nomenclature offers a deeper connection to the ecology and heritage of the high-altitude plateau.
Kyang: Refers to the Tibetan Wild Ass (Equus kiang), a species native to the high-altitude grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau and Ladakh.
Chu: Translates to "water."
Thang: Means "plain" or "flat land."
Combined, the name translates to "the plain of the wild ass’s water," identifying it historically as a vital watering and grazing ground for the kyang and other trans-Himalayan wildlife.
