Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath distributed appointment letters to 818 selected candidates at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow under the government’s ‘Mission Rozgar’ initiative. 🚨

The candidates were selected through the UPPSC and UPSSSC recruitment process for posts across several government departments.

The appointments include 48 instructors in the Vocational Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, 9 Assistant Statistical Officers in the Industries Department and 357 X-Ray Technicians in the Medical and Health Services Department.

The AYUSH Department accounted for 404 appointments, including pharmacists, professors, readers and lecturers in Ayurveda, Homeopathy and Unani medicine.

During the appointment letter distribution ceremony, Yogi Adityanath said around 9.5 lakh young people had already received government jobs through the state’s recruitment process.

He also announced that the Uttar Pradesh government plans to provide more than one lakh additional government jobs over the next six months, with appointment letters to be issued during the period.

The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s focus on recruitment through what he described as a transparent and merit-based process and congratulated the newly selected candidates.

The latest announcement comes as Uttar Pradesh continues its Mission Rozgar drive to recruit young people across different departments and expand employment opportunities in government services.

A special moment during General Dhiraj Seth’s Russia visit saw the Indian Army Chief fire the traditional cannon at the historic Peter and Paul Fortress in St Petersburg. 🇮🇳🇷🇺

General Dhiraj Seth, Chief of the Army Staff, was on a three-day official visit to Russia from September 16 to 18, 2026, aimed at strengthening India-Russia defence cooperation and military-to-military ties.

During his visit to St Petersburg, General Seth visited the Mikhailovskaya Military Artillery Academy, where he interacted with faculty and discussed artillery training, modern military education and the modernisation of artillery.

He was then accorded the unique honour of firing the traditional cannon at the historic Peter and Paul Fortress, a distinctive ceremonial moment during the visit.

The Army Chief also held high-level meetings in Moscow, including discussions with Russian Deputy Defence Minister General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov on joint capability development, professional military exchanges and expanding military-to-military engagement.

He also received a ceremonial Guard of Honour and paid homage at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow.

The visit marked the first Russia visit by a serving Indian Army Chief since 2018 and focused on training, capability development, institutional exchanges and closer professional cooperation between the two armies.

The cannon-firing ceremony added a striking visual moment to a visit centred on the longstanding India-Russia defence partnership.

A second-year student at IIT Bombay died by su***de hours after being found using ChatGPT during an examination, triggering a major student protest on campus. 🚨

The student was from the Department of Energy Science and Engineering at IIT Bombay. According to the institute, he was found using a mobile phone during an examination on Friday.

IIT Bombay said the student had uploaded the examination question paper to ChatGPT to seek answers. The institute said that no disciplinary action had been initiated against him.

The matter was discussed with the student by the instructor and the Head of Department, who counselled him and assured him that the incident would not adversely affect his academic career, according to the institute's statement. He later returned to his hostel room, where he was found dead later that evening.

Following his death, more than 400 students gathered on the IIT Bombay campus, demanding accountability and transparency from the administration. The institute's ongoing mid-semester examinations were also postponed amid the protests.

Students raised broader concerns about mental-health support, student welfare and how serious incidents on campus are handled. Police and institute authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the student's death.

The incident has also renewed concerns about the intense academic pressure faced by students at leading institutions and the need for stronger support systems when students face academic or personal difficulties.

IIT Bombay said it is extending support to the student's friends, classmates, faculty members and others affected by the tragedy.

European countries are stepping up military and civil-defence preparations as security concerns linked to Russia continue to grow. 🚨

Governments across Europe are asking citizens, hospitals and state agencies to prepare for major emergencies, including cyberattacks, drone strikes, sabotage, supply disruptions and other hybrid threats.

However, claims that almost every European country has declared a war alert against Russia within the last 24 hours are exaggerated. There has been no coordinated Europe-wide declaration that an imminent war is about to begin.

Instead, different countries have been announcing preparedness measures separately.

🇬🇧 Britain is preparing a nationwide resilience campaign encouraging households to keep basic supplies such as bottled water and tinned food. The country is also planning its largest-ever national home-defence exercise in 2027.

🇫🇷 France has asked its health system to prepare for a possible major military engagement, including scenarios involving large numbers of French and allied troops needing medical treatment.

🇳🇱 The Netherlands has advised people to maintain enough essential supplies to remain self-reliant for at least 72 hours if normal services are disrupted.

🇫🇮 Finland has been strengthening military and civil-defence readiness, while its leadership has urged citizens to be mentally prepared for possible emergencies.

🇵🇱 Poland is expanding its eastern defensive infrastructure and preparing for potential drone and missile threats, while Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned parliament about the possibility of Russian attacks being disguised as accidents.

🇩🇪 Germany is also reviewing emergency shelter capacity and preparing for scenarios involving major military movement and infrastructure disruption.

Across Europe, countries are also strengthening border defences, reviewing emergency shelters, expanding military reserves and improving plans for protecting critical infrastructure.

A tragic accident at a private school in Shadnagar has claimed the life of a 9-year-old Class 4 student. 🚨

The girl, identified as Varnika, was reportedly descending the staircase at Indian Public School in Shadnagar, Telangana, on Thursday, September 17, when she suddenly lost her balance and fell.

CCTV footage from the school reportedly captured the incident. The video shows Varnika coming down the stairs before falling face-first, after which a fellow student is seen approaching her.

Varnika was found unconscious after the fall. The school management rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Despite medical efforts, the young student succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment on Friday, September 18.

The incident has left the school community and the child’s family in shock. The CCTV footage is expected to help establish the exact sequence of events surrounding the fall.

India and Afghanistan celebrated their cricketing friendship with a special evening in Delhi ahead of the third T20I. 🏏🤝

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) hosted the Indian cricket team at a special dinner event called Koh-E-Zafar, which translates to “Mountain of Triumph.”

The event brought together Indian and Afghan players, ACB officials, BCCI representatives and senior cricket officials for an evening focused on friendship and mutual respect through cricket.

During the event, the two sides also exchanged souvenirs and gifts, highlighting the relationship shared between the cricket boards and their players.

The evening also featured the 2026 Friendship Cup, with Indian and Afghan players posing together for photographs.

Indian batter Ishan Kishan spoke about his experiences with Afghan cricketers and praised the passion they bring to the game. He also recalled his time playing alongside Afghanistan players in the IPL.

While speaking about the Afghan players, Kishan began his remarks with “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim,” which drew laughter from those present.

Delhi Police have arrested four people, including three minors, in connection with the alleged gang-rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl. 💔

According to police, the incident took place on September 10 in the Swaroop Nagar area of Delhi, after the girl went to meet a 17-year-old acquaintance.

Police allege that the girl was taken inside a tempo, where she was sexually assaulted. Investigators said she was later stabbed multiple times after reportedly threatening to inform others about the assault.

Her body was allegedly dumped in an open area and partially covered. It was discovered on September 13 near Kushak Road, by which time it had decomposed and showed signs of animal attacks.

A post-mortem examination reportedly confirmed sexual assault and found multiple stab injuries.

Police used footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras to trace the movement of a suspected tempo and identify the people allegedly involved.

The arrested accused include 19-year-old Shivam Ganesh and three juveniles aged between 16 and 17. Police said three of the suspects have confessed, while investigators are still examining the individual role of each accused.

Police have also reportedly recovered knives and blood-stained clothing as part of the investigation.

Authorities are continuing to examine CCTV footage, forensic evidence and the suspects’ statements to establish the complete sequence of events and determine whether anyone else was involved.

A fresh maritime confrontation has been reported in the West Philippine Sea, after a China Coast Guard vessel collided with a Philippine government fisheries ship near Palawan.

According to the Philippine Coast Guard, China Coast Guard vessel CCG-21585 struck the BRP Datu Magat Salamat, a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources vessel, at around 11:13 a.m. on September 18. The Philippine vessel was carrying out a mission to deliver subsidized fuel to Filipino fishermen.

Philippine officials said the Chinese vessel first passed close behind the ship before making contact during a second maneuver. The collision damaged the vessel’s starboard side, railings and deck structures, but no injuries were reported. The incident occurred about 54 nautical miles off Palawan, according to Philippine authorities.

China has disputed the Philippine account and said the Philippine vessel ignored warnings and was responsible for the collision. Both sides have therefore presented different accounts of how the incident happened.

The incident adds to continuing tensions between China and the Philippines over disputed waters in the South China Sea.

India and the United States are testing advanced military technology alongside traditional combat skills during Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026.

The joint exercise began on September 15, with around 600 troops from each country participating in training at Auli in Uttarakhand and the Mahajan range in Rajasthan.
