In today's post, we focused on tooth nomenclature.

Teeth notation is used to identify each tooth. This helps in recording relevant data under a standard system and clear communication. There are different tooth notation systems, each with its own set of symbols.

The most commonly used dental notation systems are:

1. Palmer notation method
2. Universal Numbering System
3. ISO System or FDI system

The anatomy of the edentulous ridge in the maxilla and mandible is one of the important topics in prosthodontics. These landmarks help in the fabrication of a complete denture with the objective of providing a prosthesis that restores lost teeth and associated structures functionally, anatomically and aesthetically as much as possible with the preservation of underlying structures.
The landmarks of an edentulous jaw are grouped into limiting structures, supporting structures and relief areas.

👉Limiting structures: These sites will guide us in having an optimum extension of the denture to engage maximum surface area without infringing upon the muscle actions.

👉Stress-bearing areas / Supporting structures: Supporting structures are the load-bearing areas. The denture should be designed to concentrate most of the load on these areas.

👉Relief areas: Relief areas are areas where they are either resorbed under constant load, having fragile structures within or covered by thin mucosa, which can be easily traumatized. It should be designed so that the masticatory load is not concentrated over these areas.

Today we are sharing one of the important topics of Tooth Anatomy, 'THE LINE and POINT ANGLES of the TOOTH'.

A line angle is formed by the junction of two surfaces and derives its name from the combination of the two surfaces that join. For example, the junction of the mesial and labial surfaces on an anterior tooth is called the mesiolabial line angle.

The junction of three surfaces forms a point angle. The point angle also derives its name from the combination of the names of the surfaces forming it. For example, the junction of the mesial, buccal, and occlusal surfaces of a molar is called the mesiobucco-occlusal point angle.

Line and point angles are used as descriptive terms to indicate a location.

I hope it will be very useful to you since it is a super important topic.
