Hearing a petition filed by Hina Haneefa, a 23-year-old transgender person, Justice Anu Sivaraman ruled that she should be enrolled into the National Cadet Corps.
The Kerala High Court on Monday ordered the Centre to amend Section 6 of the National Cadet Corps Act (1948) which excludes transgender persons from joining the National Cadet Corps (NCC) so that everyone gets a chance to join the force.
Hearing a petition filed by Hina Haneefa, a 23-year-old transgender person, Justice Anu Sivaraman ruled that she should be enrolled into the NCC. The court also observed that a transgender person is entitled to enroll in the NCC in accordance with her self-perceived gender equality.

Amid record-high fuel prices, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday said there is no proposal as of now to bring crude oil, petrol, diesel, jet fuel (ATF) and natural gas under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
This meant that the central government continued to levy excise duty on them while state governments charged VAT. These taxes, with excise duty, in particular, have been raised periodically.
While the taxes haven’t come down, a spike in global oil prices on demand recovery has pushed petrol and diesel to an all-time high, leading to demand for them come under the GST.

India’s biggest floating solar power plant bygeneration capacity (100MW) is being developed bythe National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) at Ramagundam in Peddapalli district ofTelangana.
The project is in line with India's commitment to attainthe target of 175 GW of installed renewable energycapacity by 2022 including 100 GW of solar installedcapacity.
It refers to the deployment of photovoltaic panels onthe surface of water bodies. They are a viable alternative to land-based solar arrays withapplications in India.
There are a large number of major reservoirs in the Southern Region which provides a huge opportunity to go for renewable energy in the floating solar method.

The Indian skipper reached the 7,000-run milestone in her 213th match, which was the fourth ODI of the ongoing five-match series against South Africa.
The 38-year-old, who made her international debut in 1999, was also the first player to score 6,000 runs in women's ODIs.
Mithali also had become the first Indian player and only the second internationally to complete 10,000 runs across all formats.

To facilitate the ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ system in the country, the government has launched ‘Mera Ration’ mobile app to benefit citizens in identifying the nearest fair price shop.
This app will benefit especially those ration card holders who move to new areas for livelihoods.
The app is developed by the government in association with NIC to facilitate various “One Nation-One Ration Card” related services among the National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries, particularly migrant beneficiaries, fair price shop dealers and other relevant stakeholder.

France has launched its first military exercises in space in order to test its ability to defend its satellites as well as other defence equipment from attack amid the growing competition between the world powers in Earth’s orbit.
The exercise, which has been codenamed ‘AsterX’ in the memory of the first French satellite from
the year 1965, will be based on 18 simulated events in an operations room.
The Space Command of France was announced in 2019 and aims to have 500 personnel by the
year 2025.

Cab aggregator Ola has announced that it has commenced construction of the world’s largest two-wheeler mega-factory on a 500-acre site in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu.
The factory has a total area of 500 acre with a megablock structure spread over 43 acres.
According to a statement from Ola, at full capacity,the facility will roll out one scooter every twoseconds resulting in an annual production of 10million vehicles. This will be 20 per cent of the current global two-wheeler capacity.
Ola announced a Rs 2,400-crore MoU with theTamil Nadu government in December 2020 and theland acquisition was completed this January itself.

One such private encrypted messaging app is Signal, which saw a massive spike in registration after the world’s richest man Elon Musk recommended it to users.
Signal is a cross-platform encrypted messaging service that is available on Android, iOS, and other operating systems. The messaging app offers end-to-end encryption for messages and media shared between users.
The service is being recommended as a WhatsApp alternative after the Facebook-owned messaging app recently updated its terms of service and privacy policy. The new update provides additional information on WhatsApp services and how the app processes user data. There are new sections that provide precise information on how data is collected by the app, including Transactions, Payments Data, and Location subsidiaries Information. The most important change centres around how the messaging platform shares information with Facebook and its subsidiaries.

Australia's Claire Polosak created history by becoming the first female match official to officiate a men's Test match.
She took up the fourth umpire's role in the third Test between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The 32-year-old already has the distinction of being the first woman on-field umpire in a men's ODI match in ICC's Division 2 league between Namibia and Oman played at the Windhoek in

The Delhi Government recently issued guidelines to reduce the weight of school bags of students in the National Capital Region under its Delhi School Bag Policy.
What are the Key Features of the Delhi School Bag Policy?
● According to the new Delhi School Bag Policy, the weight of the school bag of students between Class 1 and Class 10 should not be more than 10% of their body weight.
● The policy suggests that the schools should follow and use textbooks prescribed by NCERT, SCERT and CBSE only.
● The schools should also formulate thoughtful time table so that the students need not carry too many books on a single day.
● The policy envisages to promote holistic development of students through participation in games, art and culture, sports and other creative activities.
