Doon Library and Research Center Official Page of Doon Library & Research Center, Dehradun also lacks a good public library for the general readers. The library thus seeks to fill these gaps.

The Doon Library & Research Centre came into existence formally on March 16, 2006 with its registration under the Societies Registration Act. It became functional on December 8, 2006 when its present premises in the Parade Ground were inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Uttarakhand, Hon'ble Shri Narayan Datt Tiwari. The establishment of the institution can be traced to the realization that Dehradun, the premier city of the new state of Uttarakhand, does not have a good library catering to scholars and researchers working in the fields of social sciences and humanities and on Himalayas, including Uttarakhand. It is, therefore, intended to be developed as:

An important resource for scholars and researchers in social science and humanities in the state (and even the neighboring states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh), thereby giving a fillip to research in these fields;
A one-stop repository of material on society, economy, history, culture, ethnography, literature, folklore and polity in the Himalayan areas of India, especially Uttarakhand; and
A place serving the reading needs of an enlightened and book-loving general public. The library, furthermore, has been conceived as something more than a mere repository of books. It is planned to make it a living institution by organizing talks, discussions, presentations and exhibitions for the general public. Along with the library a research centre devoted to studies on the Himalayan areas of the country in general, and Uttarakhand in particular, from the perspective of social sciences and humanities is also being developed. In fact the idea is to build a research centre around the library so that it becomes a centre of intellectual and academic activity in the region. The library already has over 11000 books on its shelves. It is also subscribing to over 50 journals in social sciences and humanities.

सार्थक सोच

मैं हर किसी के लिए अपने आपको अच्छा साबित नहीं कर सकता, लेकिन मैं उनके लिए बेहतरीन हूँ जो मुझे समझते हैं। इंसान खुद की नजर में सही होना चाहिए, बाकी दुनिया तो भगवान् से भी दुखी है।

मैं भारत का नागरिक हूँ,
मुझे लड्डू दोनों हाथ चाहिये।

बिजली मैं बचाऊँगा नहीं,
बिल मुझे माफ़ चाहिये ।

पेड़ मैं लगाऊँगा नहीं,
मौसम मुझको साफ़ चाहिये।

शिकायत मैं करूँगा नहीं,
कार्रवाई तुरंत चाहिये ।*

बिना लिए कुछ काम न करूँ,
पर भ्रष्टाचार का अंत चाहिये ।

घर-बाहर कूड़ा फेकूं,
शहर मुझे साफ चाहिये ।

काम करूँ न धेले भर का,
वेतन लल्लनटाॅप चाहिये ।

एक नेता कुछ बोल गया सो
मुफ्त में पंद्रह लाख चाहिये।

लाचारों वाले लाभ उठायें,
फिर भी ऊँची साख चाहिये।

लोन मिले बिल्कुल सस्ता,
बचत पर ब्याज बढ़ा चाहिये।

धर्म के नाम रेवडियां खाएँ,
पर देश धर्मनिरपेक्ष चाहिये।

जाती के नाम पर वोट दे,
अपराध मुक्त राज्य चाहिए।

टैक्स न मैं दूं धेलेभर का,
विकास मे पूरी रफ्तार चाहिए ।

बेहद लम्बे इंतजार के बाद आखिरकार चन्द्रशेखर तिवारी द्वारा संपादित पुस्तक उत्तराखण्ड होली के लोक रंग प्रकाशित होकर हाथ में आ गई है। इस महत्वपूर्ण दस्तावेज को तैयार करने के लिए श्री तिवारी व दून पुस्तकालय को बहुत-बहुत शुभकामनाएं। होली के लोक उत्सव पर उत्तराखंड में अपने तरह का पहला प्रयास है जिसमें एक साथ समस्त उत्तराखंड के लेखकों को शामिल करते हुए स्थानीय होलियों से संबंधित लेख व संस्मरण प्रकाशित किए गए हैं। इस पुस्तक में गिरीश तिवाड़ी ‘गिर्दा’, डाॅ. शिवानन्द नौटियाल, चारूचन्द्र पांडे, डाॅ. अतुल शर्मा, डाॅ. शेर सिंह पांगती, शिवचरण पांडे, भगवति प्रसाद नौटियाल, डाॅ. सुशील उपाध्याय, डाॅ. पंकज उप्रेती, धर्मेन्द्र चंद, बहादुर बोरा, आलोक प्रभाकर, अशोक सिंह चैहान, देवेन्द्र मेवाड़ी, नवीन जोशी, गीता गैरोला, डाॅ. उमाशंकर थपलियाल, डाॅ. प्रीतम अपछ्यांण, चन्द्रशेखर तिवारी, डाॅ. योगेश धस्माना, डाॅ. अरुण कुकसाल, कमल जोशी, हेमचन्द्र लोहनी, सुरेन्द्र पुण्डीर, दशा धस्माना, रंजना शर्मा, दुर्गादत्त जोशी, भुवन जोशी, जगदीश ंिसह महर, धीरज सिंह महर के लेख, संस्मरण व रेखाचित्र शामिल किए गए हैं।
