The Him Jyoti Foundation established in 2005 by H.E. Sudarshan Agarwal, then Governor of Uttarakhand

Sudarshan Agarwal, then Governor of Uttarakhand, envisages a society abounding with values, dignity, equality and purposeful education to deserving students of the State. The Him Jyoti School, a bold and ambitious initiative of the Himalayan School Society, is a residential school for bright girls from socio-economically deprived families of Uttarakhand.The school was established in 2005, with 15 girls and one teacher. A rented building in Dehradun served as the first premises for the school.

Christmas Celebration at Him Jyoti School 🎄

Him Jyoti School celebrated Christmas with joy and warmth on 15th December, ahead of the winter break. The gathering brought students and teachers together to share festive cheer before the holidays.
The celebration began with melodious Christmas carols sung by the students, filling the school atrium with a cheerful and festive atmosphere.
The Principal, Ms. Ruma Malhotra, extended New Year greetings to the girls and encouraged them to support their parents at home during the vacation. The Vice Principal, Ms. Bhagwanti Gupta, also conveyed her warm wishes and shared a few important reminders for a safe and happy winter break.
A special highlight was the surprise entry of Santa Claus, which brought smiles and laughter all around.
The celebration reflected the spirit of joy, togetherness, and gratitude, leaving everyone with happy memories as the school headed into the winter holidays. 🎅✹

Him Jyoti School celebrated its Annual Day with joy and pride through its annual presentation “Vihang
 When Dreams Take Flight.” The programme beautifully captured the aspirations, talent, and journeys of our girls.
We were honoured to have Ms. Sowjanya, IAS, Joint Director, LBSNAA, as our Chief Guest.
The celebration began with traditional lamp lighting, followed by a Saraswati Vandana. The Annual Report, presented by the Principal, highlighted the academic, co-scholastic, and personal growth of our students during the year.
A special highlight was the Usha Aggarwal Best Teacher Award, conferred upon Mr. Dinesh Rawat in recognition of his dedication and contribution, along with a cash prize of â‚č50,000.

The dance drama “Vihang” and the musical performance by the school band were deeply appreciated by the audience. Our alumni, Dr. Ganga Rani Nautiyal and Ms. Garima Shahi, shared inspiring journeys, encouraging our girls to dream big and remain resilient.

In her address, Ms. Sowjanya, IAS, urged the girls to focus on inner strength, financial independence, and self-belief—words that resonated deeply with everyone present.

Enhancing Classroom Communication: Workshop on the ‘Nuances of Language’
Him Jyoti School organised a two-day workshop on 5th and 6th December 2025 on the Nuances of Language, conducted by Mr. Pranav Khanna. The sessions focused on effective English teaching for ESL and non-native speakers.
Teachers explored the differences between native and non-native languages, prescriptive vs. descriptive grammar, the role of lexicon, and key distinctions like language vs. script and language vs. dialect. A hands-on phonetics and pronunciation assessment helped participants work on articulation, stress patterns, and clarity of speech.
Educators from English, Hindi, and other subject departments—Geography, Mathematics and Physics—participated with enthusiasm.
A truly enriching experience for all our teachers!

Disaster Management Workshop at Him Jyoti School

Him Jyoti School organised an informative Disaster Management Workshop, conducted by Ms. Reema Pant from the Uttarakhand Council for Science & Technology (UCOST).

The session focused on understanding the types of disasters common in Uttarakhand—especially earthquakes, landslides, floods and fires—and the correct steps to respond to each. Ms. Pant explained the importance of early warning signs, creating family and school emergency plans, identifying safe and unsafe zones, and maintaining presence of mind during a crisis.
Students also learned basic first aid, how to assist peers safely, and why community awareness is essential for reducing risk. The workshop encouraged the girls to become responsible, prepared and confident individuals who can support their families and communities in times of need.
We extend our sincere thanks to Ms. Reema Pant and UCOST for this meaningful and practical learning experience.

Inter-House Science Quiz: Vigyaan Jigyasa

An energising and thought-provoking Inter-House Science Quiz was held on 18th November at Him Jyoti School, bringing together bright young minds for a spirited academic exchange.

Four houses competed across six challenging rounds, along with an engaging audience round and an impressive Model Presentation segment. Students showcased innovative working models and responded confidently to on-the-spot questions, demonstrating creativity, scientific reasoning, teamwork, and presence of mind.

The event sparked curiosity and strengthened scientific thinking, making it a meaningful learning experience for everyone present.

Proud Moment for Him Jyoti School!
Our senior volleyball team performed exceptionally well and finished as winners of the 4th Mr. John J. Sookias Memorial Inter-School Senior Girls Volleyball Tournament 2025–26, held at The Heritage School from 14–18 November.
The team played each match with focus, discipline, and teamwork—earning strong wins in the league rounds, the semi-finals, and finally the championship match.
A proud moment for the school and a wonderful reflection of the hard work put in by the players and their coach.

Children’s Day at Him Jyoti School 🎉✹
The programme began with a cheerful assembly, followed by fun performances — tongue twisters, a lively KBC round, humorous skits, a witty parody, and an energetic Punjabi dance. A special highlight was the teachers’ hilarious musical act that had the children laughing nonstop. A heartfelt song dedicated to our students beautifully wrapped up the stage events.
Classrooms buzzed with excitement as teachers organised engaging games and creative activities.
Post-lunch, students showcased their artistic talent in a live portrait sketching competition, complete with creative taglines.
A delicious special meal and a screening of The Family Star added the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful day.

Felicitation Ceremony – Stories with Ruskin Initiative

Our students were honoured at a special felicitation ceremony held at the Mall of Dehradun on 14 November 2025 for their participation in Stories with Ruskin, a creative writing initiative by The Times of India. The programme celebrates young storytellers and encourages them to explore their imagination through writing.

All our participants were acknowledged for their creativity and effort. A special mention goes to Neha (Class VIII), who received recognition for her wonderful story, appreciated for its originality and expressive narrative. She was awarded a certificate of appreciation, and the school also received a certificate for participating in the initiative.
We are proud of all our young writers and thank The Times of India for offering such a meaningful platform to budding authors

Celebrating Young Voices at ‘Narrativa’ — The Youth Literature Fest

Our students recently participated in Narrativa, the inaugural Youth Literature Fest hosted by Unison World School, Dehradun, from 6th to 8th November 2025. The three-day event brought together budding writers, artists, and storytellers from across the region to celebrate creativity and the written word.
A team of twenty enthusiastic participants represented Him Jyoti School, showcasing remarkable talent and imagination across events like Doodle Art, Dear Diary Writing, Cosplay Chronicles, and Young Pen, Big Stories.
We are proud to share that our students brought home several prizes for their exceptional performances. One of the highlights was when a student from our school was selected for the panel discussion in Young Pen, Big Stories—her book was chosen from twenty submissions, and her eloquence as a young author captivated the audience.
Our participants excelled in many categories, securing top positions in Protagonist 2.0, Doodle Art, Dear Diary Writing, and Bookstagram. A special mention also goes to another student who delivered a powerful performance as one of the witches from Macbeth in Cosplay Chronicles, leaving the audience spellbound.
Each of them reflected the school’s spirit of creativity, confidence, and literary passion.

Champions Once Again! Him Jyoti Dominates the District Athletics Meet 2025-26
The spirit of sportsmanship shone bright as our students participated in the 77th Annual District Athletics Meet held at RIMC on 8th and 9th November 2025. Competing against 33 schools from across the district, our athletes put up an inspiring display of talent, determination, and teamwork.
We are proud to share that Him Jyoti School emerged as Overall Champions in the Girls’ Category, winning the U-12 and U-18 titles, as well as the March Past Championship. Across five age groups, our girls secured top positions in track and field events including sprints, relays, long jump, javelin, discus, and shot put.
Their stellar performance and collective effort brought glory to the school, reflecting months of hard work and dedication. Heartfelt congratulations to our young athletes and to Ms Priyanka Negi, the teacher-in-charge, for her guidance and motivation.
Every stride on the track and every throw on the field echoed the Him Jyoti spirit — of discipline, courage, and excellence.

CBSE Workshop on Disaster Management

Him Jyoti School recently hosted a CBSE Capacity Building Workshop on Disaster Management for teachers. The session was conducted by Dr. Sarabjeet Singh and Dr. Gauri Mehta, who shared valuable insights on preparedness, mitigation strategies, and the role of schools in ensuring safety and resilience during emergencies.
The workshop was highly engaging and informative, equipping teachers with practical approaches to integrate disaster management awareness into school activities and the curriculum.
