Yoga means "Union". Union of what? Union of the self to the divine. That oneness with the divine is what we are striving for in our lives.
This union is not possible without following the Eight Limbs of Yoga i.e. Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharna, Dhyaan, Samadhi.
We encourage everyone to at least dedicate some time from your busy schedule to the practice of Yoga. If you are having any problem or queries you can always ask us for help and guidance regarding the practice of Yoga.
Stay Healthy. Stay Happy. Stay Blessed.

The Hindu online edition has published a Letter to the Editor of our student Aman Amit. The letter is written in response to the story of President's warning on Judicial Activism published on 17 April 2016. Congrats Aman!
President's Concern!
Aman Amit
BA Public Policy,
UPES, Dehradun
"President in a conversation with the judges of the Supreme Court rightly has expressed his deep concern over judicial overreach and activism. He has advised them to respect the separation of powers and not to interfere in matters of the legislature and the executive. He nevertheless, has appreciated the judiciary for mechanisms like that of PIL but then warns that nothing should curb the power of government and parliament."
It is important to remember that in last two decades when both legislature and executive have more or less failed to deliver on the promises, in that context only the judiciary has emerged as an institution of public credibility through its timely interventions and much required interpretations of the text and the spirit of the constitution to preserve and promote democracy. The President should equally advise the government and the parliament to take their roles seriously and perform to meet the need, desire and aspirations of the Indian citizens."

Towards the Data Driven Public Policy:
Anuranan Kumar Kazi
BA Public Policy,
UPES, Dehradun
Its well-argued in ‘Data science for smart cities’ (April 18) that data played an important role in the city of New York to understand fire safety challenges and in this backdrop the author raises an important question whether the Prime Minister of India can apply the same rigour and passion for data driven policies especially in the case of Smart Cities.
It is now universally accepted that data are used to solve big and wicked problems in public policy. But the problems related to data collections and collations are enormous given the ‘silo’ nature of functioning of the Indian government. Nevertheless, as suggested the PM should start utilizing the power and enabling capacity of data in transforming cities in the BJP/NDA ruled states first and inspire other states to follow the steps.
This will require strong political will power and at the same time an advanced understanding of the data sciences. Both of which seems lacking at the moment. But things can change quickly. Data science and policy science cannot be separated and need to be studied and applied together.

Debashis Basu: Data science for Smart Cities Using data sciences to govern cities better requires a strong commitment from state governments to collect and digitise accurate data and then put a team in place to analyse them
