About Speaker
Dr. Amit Srivastava currently working as Professor and Head of Department of Civil Engineering at Graphic Era Deemed to be university, Dehradun. He did his under graduation from IIT Roorkee, and M.E. & Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, IISc Bangalore. He has 20+ years of teaching, research, industry and administrative experience. His area of research interest is Geotechnical Engineering, which is a branch of civil engineering that deals with understanding the mechanics of soil and rock masses, foundation analysis and design of super structure and stability of natural, or man made slopes, earth dams, design of retaining walls, construction of tunnels, pile foundations etc
He has 80+ Google scholar cited International / National Journal publications in various refereed journals. He has presented his work on various national/international platforms and visited countries like Italy, France, UK, and Egypt.

He is also member of various national and international societies, such as, Indian Geotechnical Society, International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, American Society of Civil Engineers, Institution of Engineers ((associate member), Indian Society of Rock mechanics and Tunneling Technology, International Tsunami Society etc.
Awards
He has bagged 3 IGS national awards (Prof. C.S. Desai Biennial Award – 2014; IGS-AFCONS Biennial Award – 2010; IGS-Smt. Indra Joshi Biennial Award – 2008) and one international award from ASCE (EWRI Best Paper Award – 2015). In the year 2019, he was presented research appreciation award from the university management.

Workshop on “Advance Excel for Civil Engineers” – 14 & 15 May, 2022
At Graphic Era Deemed to be University, Department of Civil Engineering, in association with CETPA, a training center, organized 2 days workshop on “Advance Excel for Civil Engineers”. During the inauguration of the event, Dr. Amit Srivastava, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, emphasized that Microsoft excel is one of the most powerful tool and it is used in almost every aspects whether it is planning, analysis, design, construction or maintenance activities. Dr. P K Emani, Professor of Department of Civil Engineering, who was also the resource person of the event mentioned that EXCEL is used in making BOQs, Scheduling, quantity estimation, structural designing of beam, column, slabs, project management and so on. The two days workshop provided hands on experience to students on using excel and plotting charts, using tool for regression analysis, learning Visual Basics, creating MACRO and performing matrix methods of structural analysis with example application. The overall objective of the workshop was to develop interest among participating students to learn and understand the important of EXCEL tool and its variety of applications in the field of Civil Engineering. HOD Civil commented that “students should learn to earn” and it requires extra efforts to develop skills and earn certification apart from having a valid and relevant degree passing through regular curriculum.

A Survey Camp for B. Tech 3rd year students of Civil Engineering (Graphic Era Deemed to be University) is going on from 22nd March 2022 onwards till 02nd Apr 2022. This camp aims to groom civil engineering students with essential knowledge and exposure to real work and to encourage leadership and teamwork skills.

Students are divided into groups and are using various equipment out in the field. There is a mentor faculty for each group and a student group leader is appointed for each group. The various instruments students are using includes Total station, Auto Level, Handheld GPS, Ranging Rods, Measuring Tape, Levelling Staff, Plane Table, etc.

In the camp, all the students of Civil Engineering Department are learning all the technical aspects which are required in Surveying. The basic aim of the survey camp is to know various works carried out in the industrial field by surveying, which includes determining the topography of area. The various methods used for surveying are traversing, levelling, and contouring.

Department is extremely thankful to Honourable Chairman Dr. (Prof.) Kamal Ghanshala Sir, for his approval and guidance and also the officers of Graphic Era Hill University, Bhimtal Campus for hosting this camp.
