Meet Peter Scholze. He is a German mathematician who specializes in arithmetic algebraic geometry and is considered as one of the winners of the next Fields medal -- one of the highest honors in mathematics and dubbed as the "Nobel prize of Mathematics". Scholze finished his undergraduate studies in just 3 semesters followed by masters in 2 semesters. Not only that. He got a full professorship after completing his PhD at the age of 24, thereby making him the youngest German person to do so.
Scholze did his PhD under the supervision of Michael Rapoport on perfectoid spaces and it yields the solution to a special case of the weight-monodromy conjecture. Peter Scholze has won many awards, but what grabbed media's attention was his refusal to take the "New Horizons in Mathematics Prize" of the Breakthrough Prizes 2016.
