RiddhoGurukul is a non profit girls' school administered by transgender community.

The school provides food & education to girls from unfortunate circumstances in a remote village in Coochbehar, West Bengal, India.

After 3 years of gap in formal education due to Covid, Sumi started at ঋদ্ধ গুরুকুল ll Riddho Gurukul in 2022, when she was in 6th grade.
She started from the scratch, learning letters and words and basic math.
Despite no former education, no support from her family, only because of her immense grit, relentless hard work, and our teachers’ dedication, she achieved secondary education.
Now her family supports her desire for higher education and we couldn’t be happier!

Social Conditioning at its peak! She was a student in our school for 3 years. She was supposed to be in grade 8 this year but was getting married off by her mother who is no more than 45 has the "burden" of marrying off few more daughters. We involved all the right authorities to stop this case of child marriage as soon as we heard about it. For a few weeks it seems we succeeded. Everything went normal. Then she eloped and married a few villages over!

কুচবিহারের এক প্রত্যন্ত গ্রাম বসারহাটে আমাদের ঋদ্ধ গুরুকুল স্কুল। দারিদ্র্য আর হতভাগ্যের সংসারগুলো থেকে মেয়েগুলি পড়তে আসে স্কুলে। লোকাল ট্রান্সজেন্ডার কমিউনিটির মানুষরা স্কুলের দেখাশোনার দায়িত্বে। যে পুজো করছে সেই পুরোহিতও LGBTQ কমিউনিটির। আমাদের চেষ্টা মেয়েদের শিক্ষা ও পুষ্টি দিয়ে স্বাবলম্বী তৈরি করা, সাথে সাথে LGBTQ কমিউনিটির প্রান্তিক মানুষগুলোকেও কর্মসংস্থানে সাহায্য করা।
In a remote village of Coochbehar, West Bengal we started our school ঋদ্ধ গুরুকুল ll Riddho Gurukul. Girls from unfortunate families receive education and nourishment at school. Local transgender folks take care of the school administration. Even the person conducting Saraswati Puja is from the LGBTQ community. Our goal is to help girls get educated to make their life choices themselves, and provide respectable job opportunities for the people from the LGBTQ community at our school.

Due to the flood in Coochbehar and online orders being cancelled multiple times, finally our Durga Puja gifts ended up becoming Diwali gifts! Thank you everyone who kept us afloat for years after years and kept bringing smiles to these faces! Happy Diwali from ঋদ্ধ গুরুকুল ll Riddho Gurukul to everyone!
