“Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” Sensitization Programme

A “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” (Drug-Free India) sensitization programme was organised on 10 August 2026 at the Seminar Hall, Cooch Behar College, in association with NSS Units I & II, Cooch Behar College, and Brahma Kumaris Paramatma Anubhuti Bhawan, Police Line Chowpathy, Cooch Behar.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students and young people about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote a healthy, responsible and addiction-free lifestyle. Around 150 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme.

The programme was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Principal, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer, NSS Unit-II, and Dr. Pallab Kumar Sarkar, Programme Officer, NSS Unit-I.

BK Gopa Bahen, In-charge of Brahma Kumaris Paramatma Anubhuti Bhawan, sensitised the NSS volunteers about the harmful physical, psychological and social consequences of drug abuse. She emphasised the importance of awareness, prevention, self-discipline and collective efforts in building a drug-free society.

As an important part of the programme, the Hon’ble Principal, Programme Officers and NSS volunteers took a pledge along with the representatives of Brahma Kumaris to remain committed to the cause of a Drug-Free India and to spread awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.

The Hon’ble Principal, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, and Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer, NSS Unit-II, addressed the volunteers and encouraged students and young people to actively participate in the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan. They highlighted the important role of youth in preventing drug abuse and promoting a healthy and responsible society.

The programme was successfully conducted with the active cooperation of the college authorities, NSS Programme Officers, Brahma Kumaris representatives and NSS volunteers. The enthusiastic participation of around 150 volunteers contributed significantly to the overall success of the programme.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer, NSS Unit-II. He expressed sincere gratitude to the Hon’ble Principal, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, representatives of Brahma Kumaris, Dr. Pallab Kumar Sarkar, NSS volunteers and everyone associated with the programme.

The programme successfully conveyed the message:

“Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”

The event was a meaningful initiative towards promoting awareness, healthy living, responsible citizenship and a Drug-Free India.

🧘‍♂️🌿 Celebration of the 12th International Yoga Day 2026 🌿🧘‍♀️

Cooch Behar College observed the 12th International Yoga Day on 21st June 2026 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. with great enthusiasm and active participation. The programme was jointly organized by the two NSS Units and two NCC Units of the college in collaboration with AYUSH, Government of India. 🇮🇳

🪔 The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, marking the formal inauguration of the event. Thereafter, the Principal of the college, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Devnath, delivered the welcome address. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of regular yoga practice in maintaining physical and mental well-being and explained the significance of observing International Yoga Day across the globe. 🌍

🎙️ The chief speaker of the programme was Dr. Tapan Kumar Das, Head of the Department of Geography, Cooch Behar College. In his insightful address, he emphasized the glorious heritage of the Indian Knowledge System and the rich spiritual traditions of India, underscoring yoga as one of the country's greatest contributions to humanity. 📚🇮🇳

🧘‍♀️ Following the speeches, the yoga demonstration session began under the guidance of Professor Pallab Roy Sarkar of the Department of Physical Education. Teachers, non-teaching staff, and students enthusiastically participated in the yoga exercises and asanas. 👨‍🏫👩‍🏫👨‍🎓

⭐ A special attraction of the programme was the individual performance by Pratik Mahanta, a student of Cooch Behar College, whose impressive display of various yoga asanas mesmerized the audience. 🌟

🎤 The programme was efficiently anchored by Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer, NSS Unit–II. The vote of thanks was delivered by Professor Pallab Kumar Sarkar, Programme Officer, NSS Unit–I, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for making the event a success. 🙏

🇮🇳 The programme concluded with the rendition of "Vande Mataram" followed by the National Anthem.

✨ The celebration successfully promoted the message of health, harmony, and holistic well-being through the practice of yoga.

An NSS Unit-II Annual Camp of Cooch Behar College 🎓 organized a free eye check-up camp 👁️ with the support of Lions Club International, Cooch Behar 🤝 at Shyama Prasad Colony Special Cadre Primary School 🏫.
One of the beneficiaries, an elderly woman, Smt. Arati Barman 👵, who attended the camp, has successfully undergone a free cataract surgery in Siliguri 🏥 with the assistance of the club.
An NSS Unit-II volunteer, Amlan 🙋‍♂️, first contacted the family members of Smt. Arati Barman. He then took her to the Lions Club office in Cooch Behar, accompanied by her family members 👨‍👩‍👧. From there, arrangements were made to take her to Siliguri for the surgery 🚑.

NSS Unit-II Programme Officer Dr. Sukanta Ghosh expresses his sincere thanks to Lions Club International for their valuable support and cooperation in making this initiative successful.

Two more patients could not travel at that time. NSS volunteers of the unit are maintaining regular contact with them 📞.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the club officials 🙏 for their support. It is truly a matter of great joy 😊, which I wanted to share with all of you.

📅 NSS Day was observed on 24th September with great enthusiasm. The programme was attended by the respected Principal Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, Programme Officer Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, and Dr. Tapan Kumar Das.

🧹 As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, NSS volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus and at the nearby railway station. They spread bleaching powder 🧴, collected plastic bottles ♻️, and removed waste materials 🗑️ to promote hygiene and cleanliness.

✨ The programme concluded successfully with active participation of all volunteers.

🧠 Special Mental Health Awareness Program at Cooch Behar College

A Special Mental Health Awareness Program was organised by the IQAC and NSS Units I & II of Cooch Behar College on 1st September 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room. The event was graced by Dr. Mridul Ghosh, Principal In-Charge 👨‍🏫, and Prof. Abhijit Roy, IQAC Coordinator 🎓.

“Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign by NSS Units of Cooch Behar College

The NSS Units of Cooch Behar College will actively participate in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign on 14th and 15th August as part of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The primary objective of this initiative will be to inspire citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes and spread awareness about its significance.

A total of 70 NSS volunteers will take part in this programme. They will distribute the National Flag among pedestrians, shopkeepers, and local residents, explaining the importance of the Tiranga in fostering patriotism. Volunteers will also gift the National Flag to households to encourage wider participation.

The programme will be coordinated by Dr. Sukanta Ghosh and Dr. Tapan Kumar Das, Programme Officers of NSS Unit I and II respectively. The initiative will continue on 15th August, ensuring that more people join in celebrating the spirit of independence.
