📅 NSS Day was observed on 24th September with great enthusiasm. The programme was attended by the respected Principal Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, Programme Officer Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, and Dr. Tapan Kumar Das.

🧹 As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative, NSS volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus and at the nearby railway station. They spread bleaching powder 🧴, collected plastic bottles â™ģī¸, and removed waste materials đŸ—‘ī¸ to promote hygiene and cleanliness.

✨ The programme concluded successfully with active participation of all volunteers.

🧠 Special Mental Health Awareness Program at Cooch Behar College

A Special Mental Health Awareness Program was organised by the IQAC and NSS Units I & II of Cooch Behar College on 1st September 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Seminar Room. The event was graced by Dr. Mridul Ghosh, Principal In-Charge 👨‍đŸĢ, and Prof. Abhijit Roy, IQAC Coordinator 🎓.

đŸ‘Ĩ Attendance: Around 60 students actively participated and benefited from the insightful discussions.

Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer (NSS Unit I) 🏅, emphasized the importance of mental health awareness among youth.

The program successfully highlighted the need for mental well-being, early detection of mental health issues, and the importance of professional guidance and social support. 🌟

“Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign by NSS Units of Cooch Behar College

The NSS Units of Cooch Behar College will actively participate in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign on 14th and 15th August as part of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. The primary objective of this initiative will be to inspire citizens to hoist the National Flag at their homes and spread awareness about its significance.

A total of 70 NSS volunteers will take part in this programme. They will distribute the National Flag among pedestrians, shopkeepers, and local residents, explaining the importance of the Tiranga in fostering patriotism. Volunteers will also gift the National Flag to households to encourage wider participation.

The programme will be coordinated by Dr. Sukanta Ghosh and Dr. Tapan Kumar Das, Programme Officers of NSS Unit I and II respectively. The initiative will continue on 15th August, ensuring that more people join in celebrating the spirit of independence.

“World Water Crisis and Our Duty”

A special lecture on “World Water Crisis and Our Duty” was held to create awareness about global and regional water challenges.

Date: Wednesday, 13th August 2025

Place: Cooch Behar College
Speaker: Mr. Arup Guha, Founder Secretary, Nature & Adventure Study Group
Organised by: National Service Scheme (NSS) and Department of Geography, Cooch Behar College

A total of 68 students participated in the programme. Faculty members of the Department of Geography, Dr. Tapan Kumar Das (NSS Programme Officer, Unit I), Head of the Department of Geography, and Dr. Sukanta Ghosh (Head of the Department of Political Science and NSS Programme Officer, Unit II) were present. The Principal of the College, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, presided over the programme and explained the relevance of the discussion.

Mr. Arup Guha discussed where water sources once existed in Cooch Behar and highlighted how King Harendranarayan had realized the need for a proper drinking water system. He also made a notable reference to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s contribution, explaining how Tagore implemented the use of underground water, purified and supplied through pipes, as safe drinking water. The speaker further emphasized sustainable water management and conservation.

The session highlighted the global water crisis with a special reference to North Bengal and encouraged students to adopt practices that protect local water resources.

Motivational Lecture Session at Cooch Behar College

On 09/08/2025 at 12 noon, a motivational lecture session was organized at Cooch Behar College by the NSS Units of the college in collaboration with Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, Paschimbanga Pranto, Cooch Behar Karyasthan. The speakers were Biswas Lapalkar (Jibanbrati of Karyasthan) and Pradeep Jaisawal (Karyasthan Pramukh) from Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari.

They delivered inspiring talks on "The Role of Youth in Modern India". Mrs. Bijaylaxmi Barman, local coordinator of the organisation, was also present on the occasion. The event was initiated by Dr. Tapan Kumar Das, Programme Officer of NSS Unit I, and Dr. Sukanta Ghosh, Programme Officer of NSS Unit II. A total of 50 volunteers participated in the programme.

Objective: To inspire and motivate the youth towards nation-building and to instill the values of service, leadership, and social responsibility.

On the eve of International Yoga Day, NSS volunteers Koushik Biswas, Pratik Mohanta, and Vivek Basfore enthusiastically practiced various yogasanas.

NSS Unit-II, Cooch Behar College, West Bengal, India, created an awareness video showcasing five yoga asanas and highlighting their benefits for both physical and mental health.

The initiative aimed to promote holistic well-being among students and encourage the regular practice of yoga in daily life.

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, a special programme was successfully organized by the NSS Units of Cooch Behar College in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education. The event commenced with a welcome address, followed by an insightful seminar featuring three resource persons who emphasized the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of practicing yoga.

The respected Principal of Cooch Behar College, Dr. Pankaj Kumar Debnath, delivered an inspiring speech, encouraging students to adopt yoga as a part of their daily routine. The Head of the Department of Physical Education also addressed the audience, underlining the relevance of yoga in maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

The NSS Programme Officers highlighted the commitment of NSS volunteers toward promoting health awareness and community well-being. A live yoga demonstration was conducted by NSS volunteers and students, showcasing various asanas and breathing techniques with discipline and enthusiasm.

An oath-taking ceremony was also conducted during the programme. The Programme Officer of NSS Unit–II read out the Environment Day Oath, and all participants pledged to protect and preserve the environment through responsible actions and awareness.
