The Department of Textiles and Apparel Design, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, celebrated the 12th National Handloom Day on 7 August 2026, bringing together students, faculty and staff to honour India’s rich handloom heritage.

The celebration featured an insightful special address by entrepreneur and weaver Mr. Saravanan of Tugil, Vasudevanallur, a spectacular handloom fashion show presented by M.Sc. students, and an exhibition and sale of handloom products.

The event highlighted the invaluable contribution of handloom weaving to India’s socio-economic development and reaffirmed the need to preserve traditional craftsmanship while empowering the weaving community.

Interactive Session & Linkage with Experts

The Department of Career Guidance, Department of Tamil, and Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, in association with the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC), are organising an Interactive Session & Linkage with Experts on 11 August 2026.

The session will provide students with an opportunity to engage with an industry expert and gain insights into entrepreneurship, career guidance, leadership, industry linkages, innovation, and professional growth.

The Department of Social Work, Bharathiar University, successfully inaugurated the SWIFT Students' Forum and NIPM Students' Chapter for the academic year 2026–2027, marking the beginning of a new chapter in student leadership and professional development.

The programme was graced by Mr. A. S. Sankaranarayanan, Founder and Managing Trustee, Native Medicare Charitable Trust, Coimbatore, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. D. Suresh Kumar, Senior Manager – Corporate HR & IR, CRI Pumps Private Limited, Coimbatore, as the Guest of Honour. Their inspiring addresses highlighted the importance of leadership, professional ethics, social responsibility, and career readiness in shaping socially conscious professionals.

A key highlight of the event was the swearing-in ceremony of the office bearers of the SWIFT Students' Forum and NIPM Students' Chapter, reaffirming the University's commitment to nurturing leadership, academic excellence, industry engagement, and community service.

The celebration features a fashion show, handloom weavers' display, and exhibition stalls, showcasing the richness of traditional weaving and promoting the timeless beauty of handcrafted textiles.

Join us as we celebrate our cultural heritage and support the artisans who keep India's handloom tradition alive.

Sixteen students from the M.A. Career Guidance and B.Voc. programmes received certificates for successfully completing the "AI for Her" and "AI in Tamil" initiatives of the Regenesys School of AI, South Africa, during the AI for Viksit Bharat – CXO Summit 2026 held at Vivanta, Coimbatore, on 6 August 2026.

The certificates were presented by Dr. Marko Saravanja, Chairperson of Regenesys, in the presence of Prof. A. Vimala, Head, Department of Career Guidance, Bharathiar University.

Three-Week Training-cum-Workshop on Linguistics for Malaysian Students (Outbound Programme)

The Department of Linguistics, Bharathiar University, in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics, University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is organizing a Three-Week Training-cum-Workshop on Linguistics for Malaysian Students (Outbound Programme) from 7–26 August 2026.

The programme aims to strengthen academic collaboration, promote cross-cultural learning, and provide Malaysian students with an enriching exposure to linguistic studies and research at Bharathiar University.

The Inaugural Function will be held on 7 August 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Seminar Hall, Department of Linguistics, Bharathiar University.
