“JumpSmart” Innovation Contest
from Babson
As part of ICCCI 2015 & IoT Workshop (organized by Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering and Technology), we would like to encourage the participants and other curious minds to bring out the innovative solution for the interesting problem stated below. The best feasible solution accepted by the team from Babson B-School and the organizing committee of ICCCI for further implementation will receive the lucrative cash award of Rs 10000( INR Ten Thousand) and the opportunity to work on the prototype. Please send your proposed solution (not more than 4 pages) to [email protected] on or before 10-Jan-2015. For further details about the contest, please contact Prof. Selvakumar @ +91-9443256566 / 9943900101.
Problem Statement:The goal of this project is to design a minimum viable product of a JumpSmart system. JumpSmart is an electronic game that combines physical activity with logic and math learning. It’s fun, interactive and it prepares children ages 4-9 to learn how to program computers. The design will need to be a soft padon the ground that can be rolled up and stored. The display on the pad must be broken into a 5x5 grid of squares. The material must be soft and easy to jump on, because jumping from square to square is how the games will be played. Each grid block would need the capability to display a number, shape or pattern and be touch-sensitive. A child could jump twice on a block to have it display their answer "2", for instance. Or for the memory game they would jump once to display the pattern on the other side of a square. The game should have the capability to track a user’s progress over time.
Specifications:
Weight of the pad:Less than 5 lbs (2.27kg)
Must have an app component compatible with iPhone or Android
Size of pad: 80cmx80cm grid. Can be slightly larger if a scoreboard or timer is to be added.
Cost:As low as possible. Most feasible will be if cost of materials is $75USD per system or less.
Restricted materials for US toys: Phthalates are banned in the US in plastic toys. The exact types banned are: DEHP, DBP, BBP (any amount greater than .1%). There is also a limit of lead content of 600ppm in US toys. (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act).
The initial prototype shall have at least three or four of the following games (but not restricted to): Simon Says, Math problems (Addition, subtraction), Memory/Concentration, Sudoku, Memory Matrix, Sliding Block and Flip It.
Similar games for inspiration: Dance Dance Revolution, Electronic Hopscotch,FlashPad, Electronic drum set, Electronic Roll-up Keyboard, WiiFit and Power Pad for Nintendo are similar electronic games, though none combine the LED numbers with the soft store-able pad.
