We all know about importance of Friendship day in India. On this day we spend time with our special friends and greet them with friendship bands or gifts. Actually we don’t really need any special day to let our friends understand about your love towards them but Friendship day is a golden opportunity to show your trust, affection and care towards your friends. Friendship day is celebrated all over world in different ways and on different days!

1) Idea of celebrating World Friendship Day every year was first given by Dr. Artemio Bracho during dinner with his friends on 20 July 1958, Exactly after 10 days means on 30th July, 1958 Friendship Day function was organized in Puerto Pinasco – small town in Mexico City and in memory of that function every year United States and its neighboring countries celebrates Friendship day every year on 30th July.
2) In India we celebrate Friendship day on first sunday of August, but traditionally there is no fix date yet for Friendship day in India.
3) Greeting cards industries were initially to start Friendship day trend, But in countries like India, Malaysia and Bangladesh Friendship day became popular because of social networking sites and increasing interest of people in internet.
4) Every year third sunday of September is celebrated as World’s Women Friendship Day. The Kappa Sorority in Farmville celebrated this day for first time in 1999 but there is no government proclamation for this day.
5) Winnie – The Pooh a famous cartoon character was World’s Friendship Ambassador in year 1997.
6) Besides Valentine day, whole February month is assigned as International Friendship month by United Nations.
7) Trending Friendship day custom includes greeting friends with yellow or pink roses who were always present when you needed them and also who were loyal with you whole year.
8) In Mahabharata, friendship day was celebrated in province of Ayodhya, when Lord Krishna’s Friend “Sudama” reached his kingdom after very long and painful journey.
9) Old friends and New Friends week is celebrated in third week of May at few places in United States. In this week people usually meets or calls there old friends and according to them it is good to make new friends in this week.
10) The evergreen song by Beatles – “With a Little Help From My Friends” was actually released in year 1967 on celebration of 10th International Friendship Day.
