Astronomers have found an exotic young planet, named PSO J318.5-22, which is not orbiting a star. The planet, which formed only 12 million years ago, is 80 light years away from Earth and has a mass six times that of Jupiter. PSO J318.5-22 is one of the lowest-mass free-floating objects identified and will aid scientists in understanding the ‘early years’ of gas giant planets like Jupiter.
