Isha Vidhya was founded as a means for transforming the lives of rural children by providing affordable, high-quality education where it is otherwise unavailable. Isha Vidhya schools are designed to build confident, English-speaking and computer-adept youth, opening the door for them to participate in and benefit from India’s economic growth. Currently, there are 9 schools in operation with a tota

l of over 7000 students. Many students are first-generation school-goers from their families. The project functions on a grass-roots level, relying on community involvement and the support of volunteers and donors.

Celebrating Aadi Perukku

Aadi Perukku was celebrated to express gratitude to water and nature. Students dressed in vivid traditional attire eagerly performed the traditional Kummi Pattu and other dances and songs.

The finale was Mulapari — a ritual in which Navadhanyam (nine different types of grains) was carried and offered to a water body in the presence of Amman, the goddess of rain.

Learning to Elect

Isha Vidhya Tuticorin students from Classes 4-12 participated in a simulated election process to choose student representatives. Candidates filed their nominations and canvassed at the school assembly, after which students voted online using Google Forms. The digital process was simple, reliable, transparent, quick, and paperless. The organizing teacher served as Election Commissioner, ensuring every student cast a single vote, and the eagerly awaited results were announced at the next school assembly.

The activity ensured total student participation and promoted leadership qualities.
