SACON is pleased to announce the commencement of the Second batch of its flagship PG programme in M.Sc. Wildlife Science (Ornithology) on 19th December, 2022 in academic collaboration with the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) and with the financial support of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. In total, nine students from six States have been admitted to the Course based on their cumulative performance in the CUET-PG 2022 examination and Interview. The PG programme is central to SACON's commitment to India's capacity building in wildlife conservation and sustainable development.

SACON is organising a three day training workshop on “Monitoring and Management of Wetlands” from 13th to 15th December 2022 at Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History under the guidance of Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India. A total of 24 IFS officer representing different states are participating in the training workshop. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. S. Muralidharan, Director in charge, SACON, in the presence of the participating IFS officers and resource persons. He highlighted the importance of the workshop and the need to build capacities of the forest officials to better conserve and manage the wetlands.
The inaugural function was followed by technical sessions and visit to SACON's facilities on day 01. The technical sessions were delivered by SACON in-house faculty and invited guest scientist. The course objective is to sensitize IFS officers about monitoring and management of wetlands and its associated biodiversity.

On 10th Dec 22, SACON hosted fourth program of "Coffee with Collector with Government School students of Coimbatore". Dr. P. Pramod, Senior Principal Scientist, SACON, discussed the wonders of nature and shared his experience in the field of Nature Education and Science Communication. The students explored the wilderness of the campus accompanied by research scholars Santhosini, Shriya auradkar, Prathamesh Gurjarpadhye, Hari Krishnan. Later, students had an interactive session with Collector G.S.Sameeran, asking their inquisitive questions on academics, art and sport with sheer joy and enthusiasm.

Agricultural Instructors from Bukalasa Agricultural College and Vocational Training Institute, Uganda; Dalhousie University, Canada; and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, visited SACON on 9th of December 2022 as a part of the International Training Programme on "Engaging Africa: Global Partners for Agricultural Development" in collaboration with Centre for Student's Welfare, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. They were briefed about SACON'S research activities by Dr. Aditi Mukherjee, Scientist. They were also accompanied by Dr. Mahendiran, Senior Scientist to various SACON's facilities including the Laboratories and Library. The functioning of the Avian Physiology & Genetics Laboratory was briefed by Dr. Ashutosh Singh, Scientist. Dr. Nambirajan, Project Scientist, briefed the visitors on practical tools and techniques at Avian Eco-toxicology Laboratory.

Students from BSc and MSc Zoology of St.Joseph's College, Kerala, visited SACON's National Centre for Avian Ecotoxicology on 8th of December 2022. They had hands-on training and exposure to practical tools and techniques of the Laboratory.

Staff from the Department of Agricultural Entomology, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, visited SACON on December 6th, 2022. They also visited various facilities of SACON including Avian Eco-toxicology, Avian Physiology & Genetics Laboratories. Later, they went on an "Insect Walk" on the campus trails.

Sharing some snippets from the recent visit of trainess of Ram Hattikudur Advanved Training in Conservation (RHATC) programme from the Zoo Outreach Organisation. They had a two day training programme at SACON on 5th and 6th of December 2022. During their visit, they had several lectures on wide array of topics by the subject experts of SACON including the faculty and researchers.

18th Batch FRO Trainees (2022–23 Batch) of Odisha Forest Ranger’s College, Angul visited SACON as part of their South India Tour on 05.12.2022 for a Programme module. During their visit they had a talk on SACON'S past/ongoing research activities with Dr. Aditi Mukherjee, Scientist, and a discussion session regarding State level action plan project with Dr. Bibu Prasad Panda, Research Associate. They also visited the Eco-toxicology and Avian Physiology & Genetics Laboratories for exposure to practical tools and techniques.

Sharing some Snippets from our Salim Ali Trophy Nature Competition 2022 🏆. Nearly 3500 Students from more than 60 Coimbatore Schools participated in various competitions on 20th November. The theme of the competition was "Conservation of Wetlands and Waterbodies". The students enthusiastically participated and showed their creativity and talents.
