Bharathi celebrated Pongal festival in a unique yet traditional manner by transforming the school premises into a typical Tamil village buzzing with festivities. The students joining hands with the teachers grandly celebrated the culture, bravery, and compassion of the Tamil community.
Grade 6 students created a commercial street where they acted as vendors, managing a jewellery shop, utensil shop, clothing shop, vegetable shop, toy shop and snack shop, giving a real-life experience of visiting a village fair during a festival. The celebration also included the Arts Festival, featuring all traditional forms of Tamil Nadu like Silambattam, Kummiyattam, Parai performance, Oyilattam, Karagattam, a devotional Kavadiyattam, and a Perunjalangai dance, celebrating the joy of a good harvest and community togetherness. In addition to the above, the vibrant Tamil folk dances, Mayilattam (peacock dance), Cow dance, and Puliyattam (tiger dance) were a feast for the eyes. Various traditional sports competitions were held for students from Grades 1 to 8, which they enjoyed with a festive spirit. The entire campus became a family as the students dressed in traditional attire, made pongal in a new pot, and chanted "Pongal-o-Pongal". This celebration, which brought the arts and business practices of our ancestors to the present generation, will remain etched in the students' memories forever.
Celebrating this season of gratitude, Bharathi School wishes you all a bountiful harvest of happiness and prosperity this Pongal!
