Local public transport employees in Germany are set to strike on various days next week, excluding Bavaria, as announced by the trade union Verdi on Thursday. March 1 is identified as the primary day for the strike.
"Strikes will occur on different days throughout this period in individual federal statesโmostly lasting several days," stated Verdi. Christine Behle, Verdi's deputy head, emphasized the lack of progress in collective bargaining negotiations as the reason for the renewed call for strikes.
"To push the negotiations forward, additional pressure on the employers is necessary," she stressed. "Hence, we urge employees to participate in coordinated strike actions."

In Germany, education is decentralized, with each of the sixteen states having its own laws and regulations for higher education. Institutions are highly autonomous, making decisions independently, including admission and application deadlines. It's essential to understand the specific regulations of your chosen university. With over 400 state-recognized higher education institutions, offering 20,000 study programs, Germany provides a diverse range of options.
Universities primarily focus on theoretical knowledge, with various subject groups and a strong academic emphasis. Some identify as universities of technology or education, specializing in those fields and offering doctoral programs. State-funded and private universities are recognized, with state-funded institutions enrolling the majority of students. Private universities, while recognized, have high study fees. Universities of applied sciences offer practice-focused curricula, emphasizing vocational application in areas like media, social services, business, and technology. They grant bachelor's and master's degrees, and some offer PhD programs.
Dual study programs integrate academic studies with career goals, catering to those who prefer hands-on learning and proficient German speakers. Mainly provided by universities of applied sciences and vocational academies, these programs also exist in a few other universities. Enrolling in a dual study program requires an agreement with an employer. Overall, Germany offers a variety of higher education options, each with its unique focus and structure.
