Few useful guidelines to memorise the holy Qur’an قرآن میں ہو غوطہ زن اے مردمسلماں اللہ کرے تجھ کو عطا جِدَّت کردار Student: What do I need to do to become an excellent Hafiz e Qur’an? Answer: There are a total of four steps in memorizing the Qur'an by discharging them well you can become an excellent Hafiz e Qur’an. 1. Naazra: 2. Lesson 3. Sabaq ka paarah(Part of revision adjacent to the lesson) 4. Revision Student: Please guide us how to perform well in these four things? 1. Naazra: Naazra must be prepared in advance at least a day before. Qn: What is the preferred point in time to reinforce the Naazra of the lesson to be memorised? Whether on the same day or the day before? Ans: It was a common routine of this humble that on Fridays (the academic holiday) I usually use to prepare Naazra for the next week, because the day in which the lesson was to be memorised, if the Naazra was corrected, the Naazra would not have maturity. After this experience, this humble used to prepare in advance the Naazra of the lessons a few days before. Gist: It is wise to prepare the Naazra of the lesson in advance, At least a day before the lesson Remember! The mistakes in Naazra must be thoroughly corrected for the reason that if a word is wrongly memorized, it would be quite difficult to correct it later. For the very reason the students are requested to memorise the lesson only after they are confident with Naazra. 2. Lesson: Qn: What is the right method to memorise the holy Qur’an? Answer: After correcting Naazra the best way to memorise the lesson is the method instructed to you by your honourable teacher, but sometimes it happens that even a valuable remedy may not prove fruitful for a student, despite the fact that the medicine is useful, for such students a well tried and trusted method of this humble may prove helpful. Before proceeding to explain the said method in words, I would like to disclose you that this humble was fortunate enough to become a student of many expert teachers of Hifz e Quran and during my course of research on the different methods to memorise the holy Qur’an I found the method of my honourable teacher, Hazrat Maulana Ruhul-Amin Sahib, Palanpuri’s method the most excellent. Let’s understand: For example: If someone wants to memorise the first Ruku of Surah Al-Baqarah, follow the below steps. Step 1: You have to memorise three words at a time. Step 2: Read the three words three times seeing it first and then read them once with memory. Step 3: Read the last word and the next two words by combining them (i.e. read three words) three times seeing it and then read them once with memory. Step 4: At this point you have memorised six words, further you have to read these six words once seeing them and then once with memory. Step 5: If you succeed in reading the whole verse once with memory, then the whole lesson must be memorized in the same manner as mentioned above. 3. Sabaq ka parah (Part of revision adjacent to the lesson): The revision of few lessons you have recently memorized is as important as the lesson itself so, it is named as Sabaq (lesson) ka (of) Parah (part).i.e. Part of The Lesson. The revision of few lessons adjacent to the lesson is called Sabaq ka Parah. Dear, remember a thumb rule: If a lesson is reinforced well, Sabaq ka Parah or revision will automatically get reinforced. In simple words, be it Sabaq ka Parah (Part of revision adjacent to the lesson) or revision, reinforcement of the holy Quran by heart solely depends on the reinforcement of the lesson. Poem: Brother Won’t I tell you the key to become An excellent Hafiz E Quran, Reinforced lesson is the only way to become An excellent Hafiz, So dear, make a firm commitment, A commitment to learn by heart the holy Quran with utmost reinforcement. Procedure: Remember your main goals in Sabaq Ka Para are those Rukus that have been recently memorized, at first reinforce those parts of the Ayahs wherein you have erred and then those places wherein you have paused, (the procure for which shall be explained to you in the following lines) then you must recite the whole Sabak Ka Para once seeing it and once without seeing, before reading it out before the teacher. Imagine: Say a person wants to read out the first Ruku of Suratul Baqarah and he has encountered three mistakes while reading out this Ruku. No.1. He has missed the word, “بِالْغَیْبِ”. No.2. He could not recall the next part of the Ayah after, “بِالْغَیْبِ”. No.3. Lastly, he has by mistake read, وَاُولٰۗىِٕکَ“ ہُمُ الْمُھْتَدُوْنَ”instead of, “وَاُولٰۗىِٕکَ ہُمُالْمُفْلِحُوْنَ” Answers: No.1. He has missed the word, “بِالْغَیْبِ”. Answer: The remedy to this problem is that you have to read a few words before and after, “بِالْغَیْبِ” the missed word once seeing them and once without seeing, you have to read thus, “الَّذِیْنَ یُؤْمِنُوْنَ بِالْغَیْبِ وَیُـقِیْمُوْنَ الصَّلٰوۃَ” No.2. He was not able to recall the next part of Ayah after, “وَبِالْاٰخِرَۃِ ھُمْ یُوْقِنُوْنَ۴ۭ”. Answer: The remedy for this is that, you have to read, “وَبِالْاٰخِرَۃِ ھُمْ یُوْقِنُوْنَ۴ۭ اُولٰۗىِٕکَ عَلٰی ھُدًى مِّنْ رَّبِّہِمْ” once seeing and once without seeing. No.3. Lastly, he has by mistake read, “ ہُمُ الْمُھْتَدُوْنَوَاُولٰۗىِٕکَ”instead of, “وَاُولٰۗىِٕکَ ہُمُالْمُفْلِحُوْنَ” Answer: The remedy for this is recite the correct Ayah,“وَاُولٰۗىِٕکَ ہُمُالْمُفْلِحُوْنَ” once seeing and once without seeing to check whether you have memorized or not. 4. Revision: Procedure to memorise revision (Daur) a) Recite the part of the holy Quran to be revised once seeing and once without seeing. b) Reinforce those parts of the Ayahs wherein you have erred and then those places wherein you have paused, by reciting them once seeing and once without seeing. c) At first scrutinise the portion of revision to be read out, that is by finding out which portion is relatively weaker, after thorough examination, if you find a portion is relatively weaker, increase the visual reading of the holy Quran with increased number of times, as compared to the strong portion. For instance if a person’s fifth Ruku of chapter one is weaker, he must read it visually once or twice more compared to the rest chapter. d) Remember that not all Ruku and Surah are the same, if some are easy, the others are tough, in the same manner if some Surahs are easy the others are tough, usually the students of Hifz commit a great blunder, that they read the easy and tough Rukus the same number of times resulting in improper preparation of tough Rukus. On the contrary try this method, read the easy ones fewer times compared to those are tough and at last, don’t forget to recite with memory once.
