Would you like to understand the usage of "If" when speaking in English ? If yes, then this post will take you through the usage of "If" in simple terms.
First Conditional :
if + present simple : If Sheila rings,
modal verb with future meaning (shall/should/will/would/can/could/may/might) : I might ask her to come over for dinner.
The whole sentence will be like : If Sheila rings, I might ask her to come over for dinner.
Second Conditional :
if + past simple : If you asked her nicely,
modal verb with future-in-the-past meaning (should/would/might/could): she would say yes, I’m sure.
The whole sentence will be like : If you asked her nicely, she would say yes, I’m sure.
We encourage those who read this post to try first and second conditionals very often to strengthen the usage of the language.
