M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women

The B.Sc. Psychology Programme hosted an insightful Policy-Making Competition on 19 August 2026.

The event commenced with an address by Dr. Kavitha, Assistant Professor, M.A. Public Policy, M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women, who emphasized the critical role of policy-making in driving social change. To provide deeper context, the session also featured a screening of the documentary Akam Puram, highlighting the functioning of a mental health facility in Kerala.

Following this, participants presented their proposed policies and engaged in a rigorous Q&A with the judge. The winners in each category were:

The competition not only showcased the students’ analytical and problem-solving skills but also underscored their commitment to addressing pressing social issues through innovative policy frameworks.

The M.Sc. Food Technology and Management Programme organized an industrial visit to the manufacturing unit of McRenette Pvt. Ltd. on 20 August 2026.

Specializing in a diverse range of bakery products and confectioneries, the facility is equipped with advanced mixers, ovens, and packaging machinery. The visit offered students valuable hands-on exposure to modern bakery manufacturing operations, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical industry experience.

The 21st Installation Ceremony of the Board of the Rotaract Club of M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women (2026–2027) was held on 19 August 2026.

The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries: Rtn. Mr. Shridhar Krishnasamy, President, Rotary Club of Madras Central, as the Chief Guest, and Rtn. Dr. M.S. Ravi Varma, District Rotaract Committee Chair, as the Guest of Honour. Special invitees included Rtr. Vignesh Chandran, District Rotaract Representative; Rtr. Aneez Ahamed, Group Rotaract Representative; and Rtr. PP PHF Bhavithra Shanmugam, District Rotaract Representative Elect.

During the ceremony, President Rtr. Tharika V and Secretary Rithu formally assumed their roles, along with the newly inducted board for the year 2026–2027. Outgoing leaders IPP Rtr. Sai Kshiraja, Rtr. Kavya Reddy, and Rtr. Charumathi presented the secretarial report of 2025–2026, symbolically passing on the legacy of the club to the new leadership team.

The People’s Club of the B.A. Sociology Programme hosted “Alumni Talk Series – 01” on 20 August 2026.

The interactive session was led by Ms. Krithika Jegdish, Founder of Atheneum Human Library, Bengaluru and an alumna of the programme, who shared her personal college experiences and emphasized the value of cultivating supportive emotional connections during student life.

Alumni Talk Series – Emerging Career Opportunities in Communication

The M.A. Communication Programme organized an Alumni Talk Series on August 20, 2026 as an initiative to acquaint students with the emerging career opportunities available after completing their postgraduate programme in Communication. The session was curated in response to the evolving industry trends, changing professional landscapes, and the growing expectations of the communication and media sector.

The programme featured three distinguished industry experts: Ms. Gayathri Krishnamoorthy, Branding Group Manager, Kauvery Hospitals; Ms. Deepa Umesh, Creative Head, Skillveri Inc., USA; and Ms. Nikhila Kesavan, Vice President, Publicis Consultant Asia. The speakers shared valuable insights into their professional journeys, current industry practices, and the skills and competencies expected of communication professionals.

A workshop on Tableau was conducted for II M.Com students by Dr. Anu C H, Senior Professor , VIT Vellore on August 19, 2026. The session focused on developing practical skills in data visualization, analysis, and dashboard creation. Students learned to present complex data effectively through interactive charts and reports.

The B.Com Accounting and Finance (Shift II) program organized a session on “Tableau-Powered Data Visualisation for Future Finance Analysts” on August 19, 2026.

The session highlighted the growing importance of data visualization in transforming complex financial information into clear, meaningful, and actionable insights.

Led by Mr. Mahesh KP, Manager – Corporate Data Engineering at Chargebee, the session offered valuable perspectives on the practical applications of data visualization in the field of finance, equipping students with skills essential for modern financial analysis.

The M.Com Programme organized an Industrial Visit for the First-Year M.Com students to Modern Bakers Pvt. Limited on 19 August 2026.

The visit provided students with practical exposure to business operations and management, enabling them to connect classroom learning with real-world industry practices.

The B.Sc. Computer Science Programme organized an Expert Talk on “Green Computing and Sustainable IT Practices” on 19 August 2026.

The resource person, Mr. Nandhu Kishore P, Architect & Manager, Virtusa Pvt. Ltd., emphasized the principles of Green Computing, which aim to minimize the environmental impact of computers, electronic devices, data centers, and IT infrastructure.

He elaborated on diverse sustainable IT practices, including the adoption of renewable energy solutions, offering students practical insights into how technology can align with environmental responsibility.
