India is generating more than 250 GW of electricity per year but there is still almost 20% energy generation and demand gap, more than 25% of total population has no access of electricity. In terms of power production we are fifth in the world. If you take a close look than you will find that almost 25 % of total energy production is unused in the form of wastage and there is Average 27% Transmission and Distribution loss. If you add both than India is wasting more than 50% of total electricity production which means only 125 GW of electricity is used by the Indian population.

The domestic sector is consuming almost 25% of total production. Only Air-conditioning (AC) and Refrigerators eat more than 50% of total consumption in residential.
