A great proud moment for all Loyolites and especially for the products of Entomology Research Institute (ERI). Our former director and the key founder and builder of this great research institute is now recognised internationally as world's top 1% scientists for his contributions to science - another golden feather on to his crown.
Each and every one of us is much delighted on this news and deeply grateful to Rev. Dr. S. Ignacimuthu SJ for his support and guidance through out our research and changing our lives.
He being former Vice chancellor of University of Madras and Bharathiar University, Principal of Loyola College Chennai and other Jesuit institutions and in various other leading roles and as a great scientist has influenced and changed the lives of thousands as a Catholic Jesuit missionary priest.
He has proved what he preached. This is a time for every one of us to ponder on the words of our great leader and to improve our research and contributions to mankind. He will always be our role model.
We, the ERI family along with all the students and staffs of Loyola College Chennai and the Jesuit congregation and all other well wishers wholeheartedly congratulate you on this great achievement and thank you for being our great mentor.
Thank you Father 💐

Hearty Welcome!
Applications are invited for Senior Research Fellow (SRF-one post) position in the Division of Plant Biotechnology, Entomology Research Institute, Loyola College, Chennai-600 034 to work on the following DBT funded project:
Principal Investigator: Dr. S. Antony Ceasar
Duration: 3 years
Eligibility: Post graduate degree in Biotechnology/Life Sciences with a solid foundation of basics in cell biology and molecular biology with at least two-year research experience in a reputed laboratory. Preference will be given to CSIR-NET, SLET and GATE qualified candidates.
Experience: Experiences on plasmid construction and plant transformation are must. Good command over English and skills on article writing are required.
Project details: This project aims at a high resolution study to understand the molecular mechanism of phosphorous (P) transport and especially grain P filling in foxtail millet. This study demands extensive plasmid construction (RNAi, promoter-reporter fusion and CRISPR/Cas9), plant transformation (Agrobacterium and tissue culture based) and other molecular experiments (qPCR, Western blotting, etc). Selected fellow needs to construct various plasmids such as fusion of native promoters with GUS/GFP, RNAi vectors, CRISPR-gRNA, etc. The proposed study includes engineering the expression of some of the PHT1 family transporters identified and validated by us (Ceasar et al., 2014; doi.10.1371/journal.pone.0108459) and other transporters required for seed P transfer. This study will also utilize the previously reported transformation protocol and RNAi strategy in foxtail millet (Ceasar et al., 2017; doi:10.1038/s41598-017-14447-0). The selected fellow may get the opportunity to perform part of the study at University of Leeds, UK.
Note: Selected SRF may register for Ph.D. in University of Madras.
Eligible candidates can apply with detailed bio-data along with self-attested copies of certificates to [email protected] (Dr. S. Antony Ceasar).
Eligible candidates will be short listed and called for interview. No TA and DA will be paid for attending the interview.
