INTRODUCTION
Vels University, Chennai is pleased to announce the inauguration of “VELSPEC 2013” - a true technical symposium.
This one-day event will feature presentation of 12 technical papers. This symposium targets a wide audience and provides a common platform for students to present technical papers with an interest in the maritime field.
The VELSPEC2013 will be the ideal setting to gain and share information through presentations that offer the latest information on marine technology, best practices, marine safety, engineering and innovation in research and development .
THEMES
Main project theme:

In short-"AMT 4 PD" –
This means "Appropriate Marine Technologies for Progressive Development”

Sub Project Themes:

-Practices for compliance to strict Port State Control regulations.
-Usage of cost effective Low Grade / Alternate Fuels for ship's propulsion .
-Protection of Marine Environment from Ship based activities.
-Appropriate Innovations for Marine Applications in the field of Ship operation
-Alternative employment opportunities including seagoing careers for marine personnel
-ECDIS- Electronic Chart Display Information Systems.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

PAPER PRESENTATION:
Technical papers are invited for presentation in the conference from students (in a group of maximum of .3 papers) studying in the engineering colleges and institutes.
Each presentation will be given 10 minutes following which will be the queries from judges and the participants for 2-5 minutes.
Three best presentations will be selected by the judges as the winners.

MARINE QUIZ COMPETITION:
Only six teams of three each will be selected for the competition.
Selection will be based on the marks scored by the teams in the preliminary round.
Six teams will play six rounds, at the end of which two top scoring teams will be the winners.

TROUBLESHOOTING:
Maximum of two participants in each team.
Each team will be given number of tasks to be completed in engine room simulation.
Each task has a time limit of 5 minutes.
Winners will be decided by the coordinator based on the performance of the participants.
