🧘‍♂️ International Day of Yoga 2026 🧘‍♀️

Shaping Future Mariners
with Strength, Focus & Harmony

HIMT College celebrated International Day of Yoga with an engaging session that encouraged students to embrace physical fitness, mental well-being, and self-discipline. Through yoga, our future mariners strengthened their focus, resilience, and inner balance, essential qualities for success both at sea and in life.

We support ‘Sagar Mein Yog’, a government-backed wellness initiative for seafarers that promotes yoga, mindfulness, and breathing exercises to reduce stress, enhance well-being, and build mental resilience at sea.

“Competency is your currency.
No cargo is worth a life.
Safety is identity, not paperwork.”

These powerful words by Capt. Anish Joseph, Principal Officer-cum-Joint Director General of Shipping (Technical) (I/c), perfectly captured the spirit of the Passing Out Ceremony of DNS Batch 4 and B.Sc Nautical Science Batch 12 at HIMT College on June 13, 2026.

Upon arrival, Capt. Anish Joseph was warmly welcomed by the HIMT leadership team, including CEO Dr. Sanjeev S. Vakil, Principal Capt. Anand Subramanian, Director - Business Development Mr. Kirtan Vakil, and Director - Operations Mr. Tirth Vakil, along with our dedicated faculty and staff.

The ceremony witnessed a vibrant passing out parade, an inspiring guard of honour by the cadets, and the proud presence of parents and well-wishers. To mark the occasion, Capt. Anish Joseph also participated in our traditional tree plantation ceremony under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.

During his visit, he reviewed the trainees’ technical projects and experienced HIMT’s advanced XR simulation facilities. Appreciating the campus and infrastructure, he remarked, “Looking at the state-of-the-art HIMT campus today, I feel like redoing my own pre-sea course all over again!”

In his keynote address, he left the graduating cadets with important anchors for their maritime careers:

“Competency is your Currency” - A reminder that continuous learning and professional excellence are the greatest assets at sea.

“No Cargo is Worth a Life” - A strong message on the importance of safety above all else.

“Safety is Identity, not Paperwork”- Reinforcing that safety must be lived as a culture, not treated as a checklist.

Sagar Mein Yog - The 8 Principles of Well-being - Emphasising mental health, resilience, and holistic wellness onboard.

DGS Grievance Redressal System - Creating awareness on official support frameworks available to seafarers.

Sagar Mein Samman - Empowering Women Seafarers - Highlighting the importance of diversity, dignity, and equal opportunity in the maritime industry.

The management of HIMT extends heartfelt congratulations to all passing out cadets of DNS Batch 4 and B.Sc. Nautical Science Batch 12.

Wishing each one of you a bright, successful, and safe sailing career ahead.

The bridge is yours.

Ever wondered what keeps a marine boiler running safely and efficiently? The feed water system is the absolute lifeline of any steam plant on board. Without it, operations grind to a halt.

In this video, we break down the complete boiler feed water system step-by-step. From the cascade tank to the steam drum, we trace the flow and explain the critical engineering that ensures smooth, safe, and efficient steam generation.

Whether you are a cadet gearing up for your competency exams or an engineer brushing up on engine room fundamentals, this training module gives you the practical knowledge required for operational excellence.

⚓ Key Topics Covered:
• The Flow: How water moves from the hotwell/cascade tank through the economizer and into the boiler.
• The Machinery: Function and operation of main and auxiliary boiler feed pumps.
• The Control: How feed water regulators manage the perfect water level.
• The Safety: Critical protocols, alarms, and trips to prevent low-water level emergencies.

Safety and efficiency go hand-in-hand in the engine room. Make sure you know this system inside and out!
