On 10 August 2026, Prof. Dhanavel SP (2nd image, top standing) and students of the Research Methods course from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Madras, visited the Archives of IIT Madras.

Chief Archivist Dr. S Ponnarasu (2nd image, bottom standing) introduced the students to the purpose and story behind the establishment of the Archives, followed by an insightful tour of the facility and an introduction to the processes involved in preserving and archiving institutional history by Project Associates Raveena and Gopinath R (3rd image)

An enriching experience connecting research methods with the practice of preserving knowledge and memory.

The team from the Wadhwani School of Data Science & AI, led by their Chief Operating Officer, R. Sridhar, visited the archive to explore the institute's rich legacy. The visit offered an insightful look into the archival process, the institute's historical records, and the equipment used to preserve them, along with engaging interactions with the archive team.

A meaningful experience that celebrated the connection between the institute's heritage and its future in data science and AI.

As part of the IAS/IFS Alumni Conclave 2026, distinguished IIT Madras alumni serving across the Indian Civil Services visited the Archive of IIT Madras to reconnect with the Institute's rich legacy.

The visit offered a journey through the history of IIT Madras, with the Project Associate Ms. Raveena Sree, guiding the group through archival records, photographs, publications, and artefacts that chronicle the Institute's growth over the decades. The alumni also gained insights into the meticulous process of preserving and archiving valuable institutional records, ensuring that the stories and milestones of IIT Madras are safeguarded for future generations.

It was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the Institute's enduring legacy while celebrating the achievements of its alumni in public service.
