In rural India, where daily survival often takes precedence over education, Kasturi’s story is one of quiet determination. Coming from a tribal family in Kancheepuram with six siblings, her education was disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic due to lack of access to digital learning. This seemed like the end of her academic journey, but a turning point arrived when she was enrolled in a Residential Special Training Centre (RSTC), where along with education she found care, stability, and encouragement.
At the centre, Kasturi rebuilt her confidence, completed her missed classes, and rediscovered her love for learning. Today, she is ready to rejoin mainstream schooling with a renewed sense of purpose and a dream to become a police officer. Her journey indicates the role of right support in reclaiming the future of every child with strength and hope.

This World Water Day, the theme “Water and Gender” reminds us that access to safe water is not just a necessity but a pathway to dignity, opportunity, and inclusion. In many rural communities, women and girls have long carried the burden of walking miles each day for water, impacting their health, education, and futures. Through 25+ drinking water initiatives, Hand in Hand India has supported over 52,000 families with sustainable solutions - from solar-powered systems to water body restoration - while empowering women to lead local water governance, alongside QR awareness campaigns. This is truly a reminder that when water is within reach, girls return to school, women reclaim their time, and entire communities rise stronger than ever!
