Militvaa Diaries:
Gnanodaya - A school located in Venkatapuram Village, at Singaperumalkoil in Kanchipuram District, about 45 km from Chennai is managed by the Gnanodaya Rehabilitation Association. The school has a strength of 152 children from different leprosy colonies of Tamil Nadu and from underprivileged families of nearby villages. At present, the school provides education till the 10th standard.
Under the guidance of the Headmaster Mr. Balakrishnan, the teachers are passionate about teaching and reaching out to every learner. The pandemic affected their routines as well, as it did worldwide. They didn’t give up and found ways to educate themselves about alternate ways of teaching-learning. They are getting comfortable with online teaching platforms and tools and have been using them extensively.
It was inspiring to listen to each one of them! No wonder, the Headmaster is so proud of his team of teachers and learners.
Thought leaders of HLC International, Lakshmi Ramasubramaniyan and Sriram, had the first interactive session with the teachers to understand their needs. This was on the recommendation of Naveen Mahesh who is on the education committee of the Gnanodaya Rehabilitation Association.
Our further sessions will be based on their wish list :)

Happy Gandhi Jayanti :)
"Basic education links the children, whether of the cities or the villages, to that is best and lasting in all India" - Mahatma Gandhi
Dhan Utsav (Joy of giving week) starts today all over the country. Such a great day to start our support for online learning to many under privileged children through our Militvaa initiative.
Proud to share that we have created the following as supporting materials so far
1. Language module - spoken language content for 9 to 11 year olds at Kannagi Nagar who are supported by Inklink Charitable Trust.
Lakshmi Mahesh has created wonderful videos which are so lively and interesting for the learners. Gopika will be joining her sooner :). Both of them are energetic KG facilitators.
2. Brain Activation videos - goes without saying have been done by Rajarajeswari, the Occupational Therapist at HLC. Her short and sweet videos are so interesting that all viewers will try out the fun activities.
3. Content creation - for the 11th graders at the Pooriyambakkam school,
Math - we had reached out to our higher secondary Math facilitator Bala, he willingly accepted and sent the videos of the first chapter within a couple of hours :) He will be working on the subsequent chapters.
Chemistry - Some of you will remember Deepti Nagesh, our Biology teacher who lives in the US now. She is working on the Chemistry content. She has been asking about how will children clarify doubts? How to conduct assessments and so on, already. :)
Physics - Also on board is Sriram, the higher secondary Physics facilitator who will be working on the Physics content. His passion for Physics is going to reach many more children from now :)
Sarala, the Beyond 8 coordinator and Vimala (our chemistry teacher who is in the US now) are also supporting us.
As you all know these children at Kannagi Nagar and the Assefa school at Pooriyambakkam, do not have access to online learning. We will be sending them video links on whatsapp. Hoping to reach as many children as possible through this.
P.S. All videos are made bilingual (Tamil and English) to help the learners understand. If you wish to support us in anyways, please reach out to:

“Getting the most out of life isn’t how much you keep for yourself, but how much you pour into others”
Militvaa, a social incubation of HLC International has believed that large-scale improvements in society are possible only when those who skillfully pursue their economic interests are also committed to social betterment.
For the last few years, as a part of our outreach initiative, we have been working with InkLink charitable Trust, an NGO that works with children of ages 6 to 19 at Kannagi Nagar, the Tsunami rehabilitation settlement in Chennai.
While the lockdown has encouraged us to think differently and creatively in our own learning space at , we were also sure of continuing our support despite challenges of unavailability of phone or network connectivity that are amplified in underprivileged communities
We knew that learning from those who are already working in this space and collaborating with young minds will be the key to making our efforts real.
We got into a discussion with Lily Sengupta, founder of InkLink charitable Trust, Smita Deora of Lead School and Nisha, who works with ASSEFA schools. With wonderful insights gained from this conversation, and a lot of understanding and clarity, we formed a team to create English language learning modules to develop communication skills for the adolescents and teenagers at Kannagi Nagar -
Rajul Jain will be helping us with the framework
Our alumni, Laya will be helping us with content creation along with Thiruveni Karthikeyan and Ekta Surana.
Our student Upasana through her organization Paadhai will help us find stories and activities for younger children in Kannagi Nagar
We are also delighted that this module will also benefit learners at rural cuddalore centres named "Payilagam" run by Nisha, Gowtham and Dravina. They also work with 5 Assefa schools in and around Cuddalore.
With a committed team such as this putting in diligent and deliberate efforts, we are sure to continue our journey of giving.

# outreach@Pooriyambakkam - 1
Lock down leading to Nostalgic moments down the memory lane
Ready, Steady, let's read!!
Setting up the library was so much fun with the teachers at ASSEFA VIDHYALAYA MATRICULATION SCHOOL at Pooriyambakkam near Madhuranthakam. The whole group of teachers at the school were so excited to pull out all the books that they had and also the books that we had carried along. Some of the curious teachers sat down with some books and started reading while getting the library ready for their learners. It was a good feeling to see the library set up at the end with books sorted grade wise. Children are using the library now. Ms. Radhika, the General Manager, shared how happy she was when she saw children sitting down with books in school and also taking them home for reading.
Thanks to parents of HLC who had generously donated books to the library. Priyanka Modi was the team lead along with Pavithra , Aparna, Lakshmi and Sriram.
