On the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, we, at Cocoashala launch our dream program "CocoaAscend" with an aim of elevating Indian Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Makers to Global Award Winners!
Background: Indian cacao and bean-to-bar chocolate makers have faced significant criticism and a recent drought of awards at the Asia Pacific level due to fierce competition from Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and China. This highlights the need for Indian chocolatiers to elevate their craft and ensure India shines on the global stage. The core issues are a lack of imagination, innovation, application, intent, vision, insights, and a competitive spiritโall essential for creating "chocolate magic." It's time for Indian makers to step up and showcase their true potential.

Today we celebrate with pride, joy and happiness! (Joy is an inner feeling. Happiness is an outward expression). This is a conscious consumer returning back all the wrappers and aluminium foil from her last purchase back to us for up-cycling! These will form part of the next set of our wrappers. This is the beginning of our extended producer responsibility efforts. Read more: cocoatrait.com/about-us/

The cocoa tree; also known as the Theobroma cacao tree grows in countries with tropical climate like South India. The tree starts producing cocoa pods when it is three or four years old. Much like apples, there are several genetic varieties of cocoa which are largely grouped for the purpose of trade as Criollo, Trinitario and Forestero. Each tree produces around 40 pods a year. The season changes a bit from country to country. In India for instance the most productive season across the states is the 3 months of Feb to April. These pods mature after five to six months. The world has moved online. So has TEDx! This was an interesting learning experience. Though it lacked the audiance engagement & interaction while the talk was being delivered, it also provided some comforts in terms of pacing it as per our requirement. This will go down in my memory as the start my online journey! Click to watch my Ted Talk !

At school, one has a scorecard to keep up the motivation, learn and improve upon. At work, we have reviews! Our recent transition to an online delivery model for all our chocolate workshops and experiences has panned out well. We thought it would be impossible to administer our signature bean to bar chocolate making program "live". However, we were able to curate an experience that was well worth the effort. We do miss having face to face interactions with students and cannot completely match the same experience on an online platform. This is a plain fact. However, we are happy that most of our students join the course with an attitude/approach of utilising their time to the best possible extent during this time. Based on the feedback, we shall try to make it a more immersive learning experience.
