🎬✨ Lighting Practical Session ✨🎥
Cinematography students recently participated in a hands-on lighting practical session focused on exploring storytelling through natural and artificial lighting, composition techniques, and effective use of the location.
The class was divided into five teams of two, with each team allotted half a day to film a simple scene. The remaining participants supported the process as actors and crew, offering creative input on lighting setups and shot composition. 💡🎭📷
After filming, students moved into the editing phase and shaped their footage into short films, which were then presented to the professor for evaluation and feedback. 🎞️🖥️
The session provided a valuable opportunity for experimentation, learning, and the practical application of techniques studied in theory and earlier exercises—an enriching experience behind the camera. 🎥❤️

🎬 Workshop on Composition and Movements by M. S. Prabhu 🎥
The Cinematography students of LIVE, Loyola College, had an inspiring two-day workshop on 27th & 28th November 2025 led by renowned cinematographer Mr. M. S. Prabhu. The first day focused on theory, covering the foundations of visual storytelling through composition, semiology, aspect ratios, audience attention, and the use of anamorphic lenses. Students learned how framing guides emotion, how signs create meaning, why wider formats are preferred today, and how camera movements and editing help direct the viewer’s focus.
The second day offered hands-on training with the Arriflex Alexa, where students practiced adjusting the eyepiece, smooth panning and tilting, whip pans, tracking fast-moving subjects, and controlled zooming. Throughout the exercises, Mr. Prabhu emphasized maintaining strong composition even during movement. The session provided a valuable blend of theory and real-world practice, giving students deeper insight into professional cinematography techniques.
