Giant Metre-wave Radio Telescope
By Mr.Suresh Kumar, Senior Engineer, NCRA-TIFR, Pune
Some kind of antenna used to view celestial objects which are not possible to view with optical telescope.Radio astronomy sees signals generated years before and to see light years distance.
Reflection is of 45m in diameter and 25m in height.
• Brief introduction to the Giant Metre-wave Radio Telescope (GMRT)
• Constraining the variation in Fundamental Constants
• Near field cosmology from Dwarf Galaxy observations
The Giant Metre-wave Radio Telescope
• The Giant Metre-wave Radio Telescope (GMRT) is a large aperture synthesis radio telescope optimized for operation at low frequencies
– Wavelengths of 21cm and longer
• Designed and built (near Pune) primarily by NCRA, a national centre of TIFR.
• Unique hybrid configuration with mix of long and short baselines – allows simultaneous imaging of extended as well as compact emission
Low and high resolution images of CH3CHO emission from SgrB2 made from a single GMRT observation
TYPES OF ANTENNA:
• Dipole
• Yagi
• Helix
• High-end parabolic dishes
MAIN FEATURES OF ANTENNA
A sharp beam must be present to detect final object, distances anddirectivity of antenna.
ANTENNA REFLECTOR TYPES:
1) Cassegrain focus
2) Prime focus
3) Dual offset
4) Beam waveguide
ANTENNA SURFACE ACCURACY:
Low frequency antenna: 45m of width,25m if height and wiremesh structure.
Beam loading puts force on structure
High frequency antenna:small deflection can cause damage,100Ghz frequency, perfect parabolic surface and carbon fibre

Rodotic Club in Dhanalakshmi college of Engineering
Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering is proud to announce that our students have stepped into the realm of Robotics. A group of students from our institution started The Robotics Club of DCE to spark interest in every other student in the field of Robotics. The Robotics club of DCE was inaugurated on 11/8/2014 in a grand manner, in the presence of our chairman Dr.V.P.Ramamoorthy, at Dhanalakshmi college of Engineering. They aim to welcome with open arms any student with ideas on Robotics. Following the inauguration, the first workshop dubbed “Intermediate Arduino Robotics Workshop” , was conducted on 11/8/2014 and 12/8/2014 as a two day session.
This workshop introduced participants to basic education in Robotics. The Robotics Club of DCE presented an innovative technique to learn robotics and so that students can have hands on training on making a robot. Participants received a take away kit which includes experiments on micro controllers, driver IC’s, basic electronic components like light dependent resistor, TSOP, interfacing of LED board, Ultrasonic sensor, IR sensor. Participants actively made their own robot from the kit provided to them. They also learned to write their own robotic codes for multiple robots, using arduino. The participantscoded their own program for Sony Protocol IR Controlled Bot, Photophobic, Phototropic, obstacle avoider, edge avoider, wall follower and many more. They help students start their thought process, walk them through their ideas and help them see your imagination run around in real. Many students are actively involved in developing their ideas and building robots out of them. The Robotics Club of DCE are also a scientific forum in which students can share ideas with other students who also are in need of ideas. Their aim is to produce projects on Robotics, of high order, whenever possible. They have conducted workshops and will conduct more workshops to educate students on the skills you need to develop. They are here to guide students on anything they ask related to robotics. The Robotics Club of DCE was started in association with an up and coming entrepreneurial firm called Haavani.Haavani has catered many projects and produced products not only in robotics but a wide range of other fields.Overall, The Robotics club of DCE is alive and kicking and they are committed to contributing much more to the field of Robotics.
